If you liked horses before visiting Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, you will LOVE them after visiting this place. We were so impressed by the facilities and loving care these beautiful horses received. We were so fortunate to have met Mr. Blowen and hear some of his amazing stories. Our tour guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable as well, and filled us in on the history of the farm, even before we arrived. All in all, it was a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend Blue Grass Tours!

We specifically went to Lexington see horses, and we saw a ton of them! This place was a highlight of our trip. We saw 2 Kentucky Derby Winners, the brother of Barbaro, and many other beautiful retired thoroughbreds. I highly recommend this tour.

Old Friends is a place to meet retired thoroughbred racehorses. Jennifer and Karen, our knowledgable and enthusiastic hosts, obviously have a great passion for their work with these horses. We visited several paddocks, met the horses, all of whom have unique personalities and seemed to enjoy our attention. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that we had buckets of carrots to feed them. It was a great outing with our senior group. I plan to go back with my grandchildren in the near future.

The two ladies working June 1st were awesome and very informative and all around nice to be around. The horses are treated great and you can see the happiness in the horses. Very nice property

Not a bad drive up from Nashville, try to visit Franklin for a quick stop for an ice cream as well. Brilliant tour guide who showed us around and told us all about the horses. You can feed them and stroke them. Non profit so great to see your money going straight to look after the animals. If you like horses well worth a visit for about an hour. Next door to the race course a little hidden away.

We had been to the Old Friends up in Lexington & heard about this one down in Franklin. We drove up from Nashville on a recent vacation & all of us had fun! It is so enjoyable to see these former racehorses living a good life of retirement. Our tour guide was a wonderful lady that told us all kinds of stories. Would definitely come back the next time we are in the area!

Such a great place next to Kentucky Downs. The retired horses are well taken care of. Tour guide great. Gave us carrots to give to horses. Nice experience..

This is where race horses come to retire. They currently have 4 race horses. This is a non profit organization so any money you pay is going towards the horses. $5 for adult tour. Tour guide was great. Provided us with a lot of carrots to feed the horses. The tour was really introducing you to the horses, providing carrots, and answering any questions. No rush at all. Could have stayed all day if we wanted. Really really an enjoyable hour to spend and give some TLC to some beautiful horses and make new friends. Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in the area.
FYI: it's approx 30 min from Nashville; on the way back from Mammoth Cave National Park day trip from Nashville.
It's next door to the Kentucky gaming (aka casino), grab a $10 gaming voucher coupon in the Old friends office!

We drove to Franklin during our Nashville trip, with the sole purpose of visiting Old Friends. I knew our five year old daughter would love to see some horses up close. My son, husband and I loved it too!
We were the only guests there, and our guide was so sweet and friendly. I wish I had gotten her name. She was so knowledgeable and told us all about the horses and their histories, as well as the background of the farm. She was very patient with us, too, as we took our time taking photos, asking questions and feeding the horses. My kids especially loved Fonzi. He was awesome!
This is a cash only establishment, but it's totally worth the donation! I wish I had had more cash on me to buy a few more souvenirs in the gift shop. We left with a few goodies from the Franklin chamber, which was really nice, and my daughter bought a stuffed horse, which she loves.
Because of our visit, both of my kids are super excited to watch the horse races this spring and see who is in them. Thank you, Old Friends! We had a wonderful time!
