Two floors of folk art from the years in Kentucky. Most of it it quite crude compared to manufactured products today, but the tell a story about how people with few resources expressed themselves artistically.

The Center showcases some wonderful artisans of the area- we learned a lot about the local artists and folk art in general. In this time of funding cuts, this gem of a resource deserves support. It has a nice little gift shop and is definitely worth a 10-minute detour off I-64 at Morehead, KY.

This small museum is lovingly curated with a broad and novel spectrum of folk art. It's literature says much of the art "was born out of hard times" and "is a document of and testament to the concerns, courage, and convictions of the common man." This is evident in the excellent information on each artist, as well as in the printed catalogues. It's big enough to stay interesting but not overwhelming. The gift shop would be a great stand-alone shop but carries pieces by some of the artists that are exhibited. Prices at the gift shop are very reasonable and there is no admission fee to the museum. The people who run this place clearly love it and have done a superb job of bringing this art to the public.

Attractively displayed folk art items from the Appalachian Foothills of Eastern Kentucky. From the hollows and river valleys of the area local artists create abstract and occasionally racy renditions of people and animals. May be difficult to explain some items to children and conservatives....

Stopped in the museum on our first trip to Morehead. What a find! This is a small museum dedicated to folk artists. The art was varied and carefully displayed with interesting background information on each artist. The gift shop was unusually nice and worth a return visit. The gift shop had actually original works from some of the artists on display in the museum and each were reasonably priced.

I really enjoyed this visit - it was free admission and there was a great variety of different types of art, styles and mediums. The gift shop was also full of interesting things. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Two floors of amazing Americana - all artists from the immediate region with a few authentic pieces available for sale in the gift shop. Admission is free. Morehead State does an exceptional job to curate and maintain this exhibit.
