We had sassafras trees in our woods growing up but one as fat as a baseball bat was unusual. This tree is a monster! It is oak-like in size and stature. It is not a normal tourist attraction but it is right on a main road and is worth a quick visit if you love trees.

Sadly you cannot improve. No parking - business all around it. Sad to see that no one planned better to protect and show this off!

A slight detour from the main drag brings you to this old tree which shows signs of a tough life. It’s not a perfectly formed crown, but, rather a little ragged around the edges. Park on the side street and have a look see. Love these old citizens.

On our one-day vacation trips (post-retirement), we visited this aged great-great-great-grandmother of a tree. Park at the insurance agency and give it some love. It's far bigger than the old sign says it is. We love trees, especially, old and wise ones who have seen a lot of life pass by them.

It is about a block from the Public Library so it is easy to see. Check out the Daviess Public Library while you are there because there is a playground for the kids.

This experience changed my life. I thought I knew big trees but man, I was wrong. Imagine my surprise when even I, with my considerable reach, was incapable of wrapping my arms completely around its circumference. My grasp of the inherent limits of biology have been forever and fundamentally changed. If this tree, in a State Farm Insurance parking lot, can truly of its own accord be the biggest and most magnificent of its kind, I can do anything.

Look for the sign near the tree and just pull up to the side. The tops of the tree have been trimmed. It is very wide, but not sure it was worth the drive to take a look at it.

What can you say? It’s a big tree. As exciting as Owensboro gets. It’s right on Frederica so best to park at the library and walk over.

I love that this quirky landmark is here! Lots of people stop by to check it out and grab a photo. If you have always wanted to do the trip where you see the World's largest rubber band ball and things like that or if you are a history buff that would be fascinated with how much history this tree has survived this is a cannot miss!

This is worth a trip if you visit Owensboro, even if just to see a tree that is believed to be over 300years old. It is also on the way to Hickory House BBQ. Not really much to see, except a plaque. If you enjoy "off the beaten path" type of landmarks, it is worth a visit. Park in the parking lot behind the tree (or library across the side street) It is much more impressive standing next to it. Greatly exceeds the UPS girth-unit limit....trunk is huge.
