The primates and birds were in drab cages lacking any color but beige. These complex, energetic animals have no toys and nothing at all to keep their brains occupied. Many appeared anxious and depressed. This should be illegal and considered abuse. What this zoo is doing to these animals is wrong on every level. Many of the animals were alone and had no same-species in the enclosure, they struggle with boredom. The zoo itself is very nice, with lots of shade and easy parking and low crowds.

So much for kids to do! The CAROUSEL is Magical. The Gem mining: super fun. The NEW TRAIN: Exciting. The playground, Parakeet Feeding, and Of course the Beautiful Animals: We enjoy it as much as the little ones. ALWAYS has Theme decor. What Memories we will always Cherish!!!

This zoo is way overpriced for the amount of exhibits. Other zoos in the region are half the price and have so many more exhibits.

I must say I enjoyed the walk with my significant other but the environment has very poor maintenance. 85% of the animals looked like they were dehydrated and stressed, with water in the cages looking like it was full of algae. The petting area of the zoo was the only attraction that was maintained i guess because kids love the petting part of the zoo. Not to mention, in the snake attraction there was an ant pile in a bowl of eggs. I wonder is this how some may treat their pets at home. Just because these are animals doesn't mean that they deserve to be sheltered in filth. This Zoo would be 100% better if it was cleaned up from the cages to the trees that is in the way of getting to actually see the animals in plan sight. This is my opinion.....Clean it up or shut it down

We come to this zoo often and have the annual membership. This was our first time visiting the parakeet exhibit and it was amazing, we wanted to stay there all day!

I had called on a Friday to check to see if the Zoo was open and it was not. The lady on the line said maybe the next day depending on the weather. We had driven in from about 2 1/2 hours away. When we arrived on Saturday, it was a sunny cloudless day with temps in the 60s. When calling, it was the standard recoding about the hours. When we arrived, the gate was closed. There simply was no good reason for the place to be closed especially on a beautiful Saturday! However, they could have easily updated the message on the phone so anyone would know who called. Ridiculous.

The entire website is a bald-faced lie. They have no primates or elephants and not many of the other animals they claim to have. In addition, none live in anything that even remotely resembles their natural habitat. They live in fenced-in yards or cages. If you want to come to take wildlife photos go elsewhere! The food that is not true cajun food but rather overspiced garbage they sell to tourists who don't know better. We took the grandkids and will now drive the extra time to go to one of the best zoos in the country. The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is no comparison to this foul-smelling nasty, dirty place. This should be shut down!

I am 62 yrs of age Female. Who has worked in Tourism the past 25 years. Became very ill in 2016,,,had to take a year off,,went back part time with Adult son,,who took over our little Tour company. Born and Raised here in Acadiana. With COVID,,and my Health, ,,was depression was setting in after 9 months of very little contact with people or places. Moved to a very rural area with little to no neighbors.
Tuesday November 17th 2020 I decided to take a day to do a Liittle Road trip Adventure all by myself. My walking is somewhat limited but I brought my rolling chair walker. I could sit at my leisure and just enjoy the animals as long as I wanted. Met with many young mothers with their little toddlers, ,,Grandparents with their Grandkids. Had great time with Animals and Sweet a conversations with Kiddies and Adults. It was a Beautiful Sunny Cool day. To my Surprise I spent right at 6 hours there.
My favorite was watching the little monkeys near the train station trying to break their food. They were so funny and entertaining, ,I sat there for at least 30 minutes.
Never did I imagine to have that much Enjoyment. Cant wait to go again.

While visiting Lafayette I'd not planned to visit this zoo and only found it while passing by on the highway. The price seemed a little high, for a zoo of this quality, when compared to other Louisiana zoos like the one in Alexandria. There was a good variety of animals to see with the giraffes being a highlight. The parakeet enclosure is a must see and is a very fun way to spend a few minutes. I was happy I took a chance and stopped in but I don't think I'll make a return trip any time soon.

What time do they feed the animals? Which by the way I've heard is the best time to be there so your able to see the animals better.
