I had called on a Friday to check to see if the Zoo was open and it was not. The lady on the line said maybe the next day depending on the weather. We had driven in from about 2 1/2 hours away. When we arrived on Saturday, it was a sunny cloudless day with temps in the 60s. When calling, it was the standard recoding about the hours. When we arrived, the gate was closed. There simply was no good reason for the place to be closed especially on a beautiful Saturday! However, they could have easily updated the message on the phone so anyone would know who called. Ridiculous.

The entire website is a bald-faced lie. They have no primates or elephants and not many of the other animals they claim to have. In addition, none live in anything that even remotely resembles their natural habitat. They live in fenced-in yards or cages. If you want to come to take wildlife photos go elsewhere! The food that is not true cajun food but rather overspiced garbage they sell to tourists who don't know better. We took the grandkids and will now drive the extra time to go to one of the best zoos in the country. The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is no comparison to this foul-smelling nasty, dirty place. This should be shut down!

I am 62 yrs of age Female. Who has worked in Tourism the past 25 years. Became very ill in 2016,,,had to take a year off,,went back part time with Adult son,,who took over our little Tour company. Born and Raised here in Acadiana. With COVID,,and my Health, ,,was depression was setting in after 9 months of very little contact with people or places. Moved to a very rural area with little to no neighbors.
Tuesday November 17th 2020 I decided to take a day to do a Liittle Road trip Adventure all by myself. My walking is somewhat limited but I brought my rolling chair walker. I could sit at my leisure and just enjoy the animals as long as I wanted. Met with many young mothers with their little toddlers, ,,Grandparents with their Grandkids. Had great time with Animals and Sweet a conversations with Kiddies and Adults. It was a Beautiful Sunny Cool day. To my Surprise I spent right at 6 hours there.
My favorite was watching the little monkeys near the train station trying to break their food. They were so funny and entertaining, ,I sat there for at least 30 minutes.
Never did I imagine to have that much Enjoyment. Cant wait to go again.

While visiting Lafayette I'd not planned to visit this zoo and only found it while passing by on the highway. The price seemed a little high, for a zoo of this quality, when compared to other Louisiana zoos like the one in Alexandria. There was a good variety of animals to see with the giraffes being a highlight. The parakeet enclosure is a must see and is a very fun way to spend a few minutes. I was happy I took a chance and stopped in but I don't think I'll make a return trip any time soon.

We were surprised to find this hidden gem just off the highway tucked away behind the trees. The $14.99 seemed a bit high at first but turned out to be well worth it for our experience. We visited in the morning, and temperatures were comfortable, and most all the animals were up and about. It's a small zoo, but seemed bigger by the way it's laid out with lots of shades paths winding through the property. It had a little bit of everything, even though on a smaller scale, but the quality outweighed the quantity. You can get really close to so many of the animals, you're nearly touching them. We did actually hand feed and pet a giraffe! All the animals we saw appeared to be well fed and cared for. They do have a nice variety of big cats, including lions, tigers, a white tiger, leopards, and even a black panther! We had interactions with a couple of the caretakers and they were very friendly. Not the biggest or most fantastic zoo you'll ever visit, but an easier, simpler, more intimate experience! For us on this day it was a great start to a spring break vacation!

The Zoo is better than it was when I visited years ago. Although I did enjoy the talking and laughing birds, I feel the price is a bit steep for a small area.

The animals looked miserable and starved, the exhibits are literally TINY "cells" made out of rusted metal, with leaves and debris all over them. The pathway to walk on is all cracked and broken, the leopard looked like he was in MAJOR distress and all of the big cats looked severely malnourished and were in exhibits without any space or form of stimulation. The animals in the petting zoo seemed like they were STARVING and so did the koi fish, the ducks, the llamas, the horses, and the white tiger. The literal cage that they have for two lions is about an 8×8 cage, at best, in the very front with a flamingo caged in about a 4×4 cell, right next to it... I absolutely love zoos, usually, but this one absolutely broke my heart...We kept trying to be optimistic, but every step we took just made us feel worse. My son was so disappointed and confused, we just moved from Houston and had a zoo membership there and this one doesn't even come close to that zoo.. I know the Broussard zoo is privately owned, so I didn't expect it to be anywhere near the Houston zoo's "level" but, I did and always do, expect great treatment to all of the animals in ANY zoo and this one literally broke my heart and made me want to find resources for all of these poor animals. The exhibits all were metal and wire, with rust and debris, too small for most of the animals and very unkempt. The white tiger exhibit has a crack in the middle glass, and the poor giraffes were living in their own filth, and you could smell the urine from literally any direction. I really hope that things will be improved and worked on, if not, they really just need to shut this place down.

Recently my granddaughters, daughter and I went to The Zoo of Acadiana. Age ranges for the girls are 14 to 6, so it is a challenge to find something they would all enjoy.
This zoo was truly a trip of discovery and wonder. When first arriving, it was nothing like the New Orleans or even Baton Rouge zoos. But it was so worth the visit!
What did we all agree that we loved about this zoo? First, the wide variety of animals and secondly that you could get really close to the animals but still feel safe.
I plan on going back another day by myself without children just to take my time to visit with the beautiful creatures there once more.
