Fabulous kids museum right on the edge of Portland. Easy to find and very affordable. We visited with kids ages 11, 7 and 5 during the week. They had a blast! Note- you do need to pay for parking (about $2/hr) and there is water play as well as outdoor play. I wished we had visited on a weekend to see the Dont Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus musical. Maybe next time.

I took my daughter who is ten and she enjoyed herself a lot. We don’t have children museums in Canada as they do in the US and we are sure to always visit one in the city we are visiting. The Portland Children’s Museum did not disappoint!! Friendly staff, wonderful exhibits and lots to do!

Extremely creative displays suitable for children under 10. Highly interactive. Be prepared to get wet. Fantastic light filled clean space.

We have been to a number of children's museums around the country. While the kids always enjoy them I feel that some are better than others. Some in smaller cities can seem a bit outdated. This on the other hand was brand new with lots of great stuff to keep the kids entertained. Now if they only had some drop your kids off while checking out the brewery next door program...

We went the day after Easter and reserved a time. Was busy but not that bad. I highly recommend you see a show at Maddys theater. We saw the squirrel show and it was fantastic. This museum was kind of small, but our little one still had a blast. She is eight and still had a great time. Our teenager on the other hand, just took selfies and sent it to her friends lol. Be advised, you do have to pay to park here as well.

This is by far the most disappointing children’s museum I have ever been to. There is no learning to be done here. It’s basically an overpriced indoor lackluster play place. My younger kids found it amusing enough, but I’m not sure how it’s classified as a museum. The climbing apparatus is a great place to get sick. The water play area would be great—if it were outside and warm—but instead it’s just a place for you kids to get wet without parents being prepared with a change of clothes. Also, the floor is so wet, be prepared to slip. The “aquarium” is a joke. A couple of tanks you can look at with very basic fish. A pet store would be more interesting, to be honest. The outdoor play area is fine but every local park would provide more enjoyment. So my two cents, save your money and check out a local park (outdoor play and water play), a local pet store (aquarium), and the point (indoor play place) — all free and all way more entertaining.

This spot is nestled in downtown and has an interesting exterior and lots for your youngsters to engage in once inside. If you are aiming to do an array of things opt for here like Contemporary Art, bust of Vulcan, or Portland Stage Company. MANY events take place in this compact city.
Parking can be spotty on some of the one-way streets. There are a few parking garages around too, not to mention trolleys, buses, and even Portland sightseeing tour buses.

It's a gymboree for toddlers and kids up to maybe 6 years old. Nothing that you haven't seen before if you have already been to such "museums". So for toddlers it's fine, not sure about all ages of children.

Spread across four floors, the museum has many little sections for kids to explore, perfect for young minds with short attention spans. The museum has plenty of hands-on activities. I was impressed by how it's laid out, creating a distinct space for each activity. We spent a few hours there, and my three-year-old grandson never bored.

I just picked up the membership for two for 100 itll be so worth it during this winter when it's to cold for my 2 year old but still allow her to get energy out and learn at the same time she had so much fun today and didn't want to leave alas the parking meter was going to expire so we had to go going to take advantage of parking valadating next time

There would be some things that would be interesting for an 8.5 yo, but the way the museum is set up, it definitely looks younger - things are small/low and most of it seems to be geared to ages 3-6. Each child is different, so it is hard to say, but unless you have a younger one, it might be better to pick a different activity.

Two hours would be perfectly adequate. The star show and touch tank are really nice programs for the kids. So, you may be there a little longer to get both of those in.
