When we were on Cape Cod, we made an effort to see as many windmills as possible while we were biking on the Rail Trail. It was fun to find them. Many are in excellent condition. You can also have the same kind of experience looking for the lighthouses. Just a small thing to do to appreciate the local history.

If you are lucky enough to visit this landmark and get inside, pay attention to the workings of the mill, and imagine that it is 400 years old..

That's pretty much it. It's a windmill. It's cool and interesting to look at. It stands there, and the blades slowly do their thing. There were no errant knights trying to attack it, which was good, but probably would have made for some better photos.

Cape Cod's oldest, built in Plymouth in 1680 by Thomas Paine in Eastham. Moved to Truro in 1770 and then to Eastham in 1793 and then to this location in 1808.
Also on this property is a Memorial Buoy Tree. When fishermen placed their buoy in a spot in the water to "mark their territory" the fishermen would use different colors for theirs to let fishermen know whose was whose. A pseudo-tree made of colorful lobster buoys, a year-round tribute to a local resident who made similar trees at Christmastime.

It wasn't open. I wish one of the windmills were open but...never seen the inside of them. Not much too say without seeing the inside but I would've if we made it in time the day before!

We really enjoyed seeing this beautiful windmill up close. Unfortunately, given the restrictions with COVID-19, they are not able to offer tours of the windmill in 2020. However, on the website, there is a wonderful and information video that gives you a virtual tour. I really appreciated this and learned a lot from the video. Thanks for creating it!

Cape Cod's oldest windmill built by Thomas Paine. The backstory of it is an interesting read. I love to photograph this windmill every time we go to the Cape. Great place to stop for photograph's or to just get out and relax.

The old Wind Mill was located along the National Lakeshore area, and would be a nice rest stop or lunching spot if you needed. I must admit I just didn't spend a whole lot of time there, but could see if you needed a picnic spot it would provide a nice place to do that. History on the mill available to public.+

It's a windmill. But there are beautiful beaches nearby. So go to the beach. Not the windmill. If it's raining I suppose you could stop by for a few minutes.
