Now is the time for morning or afternoon walks in the park. With your dog, or by yourself or a group.
Allow at least 2 hours time for a good visit. There are strenuous trails, or leisurely walks. Picnic tables are spread around in different places of the park, and there are some barbecue places, though you may need to ask ahead to use them. One of the most popular things is the world class Disc golf course in the park. There are parking fees here, though low for Massachusetts plate holders, substantially higher for out of state plates. DCR passes are accepted for free parking.
Hours vary by season right now ( April) its open until 7 pm.

I visit this Park 4-5 days each week as I live nearby.
Just noting some changes. Rest rooms, and visitors center are all fully opened again. Summer hours are 8am-8pm will be changed in Sept to Autumn hours and then shorter as the winter progresses to eventually 4pm in the dead of winter.
Please prepare to take your own trash home with you. There are blue barrels in a few spots for discarding animal waste and dispensers of the bags for picking up the waste are at the main entrance to the park. If you park at Bay road there is about a half mile walk into the park.
If you park at the main visitors centre parking lot the Mansion, and the Lodge with the lower leach pond are within a 5 minute walk of your car.
There are picnic tables near the main parking area for use but you should check with the rangers before using any portable barbecue units for cooking. Preferably bring prepared foods and drinks. The new human and pet water fountain is reopened for the summer adjacent to the restrooms. If you plan on walking the main trails allow for 1.25 to 1.5 hours for the full trail out to Mountain street, and about 15 minutes less for the shorter trail that winds between the Upper and Lower leach ponds. Either trail will take you past Smith Farm house and the Mansion.
If you wish to do some real hiking or mountain biking at the main parking lot go to the extreme Northern part (Left of the Visitors centre)
And begin on the West Side Trail, continue on to the French trail, and the Northwest trail. At the Northwest trail I usually turn left to the
Ridge trail and go all the way through to the Morse loop or the Quarry Loop ( there is an abandoned mostly filled in quarry in the extreme northern part of the park) Returning via the Friends trail or back to the ridge trail will get you to the end of the main walking trail then turn right to return to the visitors centre. For mountain bikers there is a trail laid out by the New England Mountain Biking Assoc. it is labeled as the NEMBA trail and is accessible off of the Northwest trail. Parking fees have increased this year to I believe $6 USD for Mass. Residents
DCR Senior and Annual passes are accepted when placed inside your windscreen. If you have any questions go to the Massachusetts DCR website or call the rangers phone at 508-238-6566 The DCR website has a downloadable / printable map in case the map bin at the entrance is empty. Weekends are usually quite busy but arrive before 9:30 AM and you will easily find a space no problem anytime on week day except holidays. There is a second payment machine up by the visitors center so you do not need to pull over at the entrance to the lot and pay at that machine both machines accept major credit cards, park first then go to the nearer of the 2 machines. The Bay Rd lot is only for Senior or Season pass parking there is no payment machine there.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon ~2pm. We didn't check the closing time and the parking area was closing at 4pm, so that was unfortunate. Therefore, we could only do a little bit of hiking. The lake is beautiful, there was still lots of greenery and foliage on November 7th. I loved the large open grass areas. The area in front of the mansion is especially nice. There was a small cabin with a fireplace inside with active fire in it, there was a wooden small pedestrian bridge and many more sights that are very picturesque. Saw many well-dressed couples and families with kids who came with a photographer. The only downside was that we had so much difficulty finding a parking spot, we probably rotated around the parking lot 6-8 times until we found something and there were ~10 cars doing the same with us. THe staff also told us there is no nearby parking but people seemed to have parked on the side of the road so maybe we could have done that worst case scenario. Also the drive from Boston to Sharon and back was quite beautiful and full of foliage as well.

Enjoy a hike or walk in the cool breezes. The park rangers have done an excellent job this year ( 2020) in clearing dead trees and mowing lawns and trimming bushes and hedges. Unfortunately the mansion has been closed so far due to CV19, but there are scavenger hunts planned for July and August a sign at the exit has the dates.
The visitor’s center and restrooms are temporary closed as of this review due to cv19 but will hopefully reopen as the state progresses to new phases. If you plan on visiting frequently go online to mass dcr and order an annual or senior pass details are on their website, as parking fees have been increased non Massachusetts cars are now $20 for 1 day. By the way there are 2 payment machines one at the entrance to the parking lot and one down by the visitor center, the ticket procured is placed on your dashboard.
This park has 2 main walks one is about 45 minutes to an hour the other an hour to hour and a half and maps of all the trails are in a large covered box opposite the visitor center.
Hiking trails on the north side of the park can keep you occupied for 2 hours or more.

For what it has to offer, a nice variety of walking trails, hiking trails (up to 8+ miles), horse trails, biking trails, some ponds and 2 small lakes, decent facilities, great park rangers, the Oak Ames Stone house, a variety of interesting wildlife and birds, some darn good berries to eat in season, some orchids (do not dig them up), some decent fishing from shore or boat/canoe, lots of old farmer’s Stone walls, I think Borderland in Easton and Sharon is the best park that MA has to offer. Parking is convenient and plentiful if you use the primary parking lot (there’s a small lot off Bay Road), even on busy days. Senior-citizen friendly. Fresh air and good exercise year-round, mmmm...

Fantastic place to play disc golf! All the trails are great and if you do the big loop you will see lots of the land and its beauty.

First off. Hours are longer in the summer. Until 8pm now
Parking is $5 or if you have a DCR pass it’s free. Seniors 62 and over send a copy of your drivers license and a check for $10 to the DCR ‘s Carver office and get a lifetime pass.
Annual passes are around $50. Available on the weekends from the rangers.
There are 2 main trails here that form 2 loops. One is about 45 min to an hour and the longer one is about an hour and 15 minutes. There are many back trails to explore also. The maps are viewable on the website and often are in a cabinet to the right of the visitors center. There is even a NEMBA mountain bike trail. Several hollywood films were partly filmed here including “Shutter island”, Ghost Busters 2” and last fall for 2 weeks a new one was filmed partly here which is coming out fall of 2019 starring Daniel Craig.
There is a large informative visitor center and a large Mansion of which tours are offered on some weekends.
People are very friendly for the most part, and its a Dog haven. Saturday and Sunday are dogs on parade. There is a large off-leash area down across from the farmhouse.
If you see me there don’t hesitate to ask me any questions.

This is an all around beauty for dense woodlands, hiking trails, ponds and an interesting history of the Ames mansion. Truly a worthwhile visit.

Lots to do! Walking trails for days. A tours of the Castle like house daily for free. There is a 5 dollar parking fee htat is all it will cost, Nice places all along ground for picnic, In the summer lots of dragonflies and butterflies every where. A great place to spend the day and get lost in nature.

It's a lovely place to walk any time of year. Many folks walk their dogs. Other walk alone or with friends. The events/talks are also interesting.

Are you able to swim there? The boating are they rentals? What about the horseback rental?

I believe that there are signs requesting dogs on leash and that you pick up after them. Would only make sense.
