Wonderful afternoon at sea. Informative and interesting. Lots of information shared by crew. Definitely worth going on this whale watch. Saw several whales.

My adult son and I participated in a whale watch in September, based on the recommendation of a relative who used to live in Boston. This was probably the most incredible thing I have EVER seen in my life. We saw common dolphins (which are actually not common in this area),porpoises, Atlantic white sided dolphins (a giant pod!), 12 humpback whales in different groupings,. The coolest thing was observing (for about 45 minutes, right up next to the boat) a mother and calf humpback team rolling alongside us! Truly amazing.

The boat was well equipped (simple, bring your lunch or purchase, bring drinks, bring your binoculars), the narrator (guide) was informative. This is a family run business, so they care. The captain was himself very enthusiastic and we ended up staying out longer than usual (he’s also a nature lover). Staff was pleasant. Price was reasonable. Boat was not crowded. Everyone could see and you could move about to get different vantage points.

Highly recommend!!!!

Excellent ship. Lots of whales and other sea life seen. Everyone on ship was awesome. Very knowledgeable. Even the whales are known by names.

Excellent Experience!

I’ll admit it: We used Capt. Bill and Sons for a last-minute whale watch because the other companies were booked. Next time: We’ll only book a tour with Capt. Bill and Sons. The entire staff - from the front office to the crew on the boat - was excellent. You got the sense you were visiting family, and they were happy to share with you not only the whale-watching experience but also many of the sights surrounding their hometown. We saw several whales and felt the experience was worth more than what we paid. The woman narrating our tour did a great job of sharing info with us while also allowing plenty of quiet time for us to just enjoy our surroundings. We’ve already recommended this company to others visiting the area.

I bought a Groupon for $30 instead of the usual $48 tour. It was worth every penny even without the Groupon.

I boarded the 9:00 am tour and we left promptly at 9. The ocean was just slightly wavy, not quite choppy. It was going to be a hot one but very nice on the water, not a cloud in the sky.

The crew were fast and efficient in casting off. Victoria was great prepping us before the trip. She also pointed out local landmarks on the journey out.

We saw a large group of Atlantic White sided dolphins as soon as we left the shelter of the breakwater. They were playful and very close.

After 20 minutes of the dolphins we went a little further and saw 5 humpback whales! They dove for short feedings of 5-8 minutes and came very close to the boat. Capt Dan did a great job navigating safely near these beautiful mammals.

The trip back was swift and cool. We saw many boats, schooners and a huge yacht.

Go now! And every year!

Best Whale Watch to date!

Being a Gloucester resident I have gone on many whale watch tours, almost every time I have out of town visitors in the summer or whenever I want to escape a heat wave. For some reason I have never gone out with Captain Bill's. That is about to change! The customer service was outstanding, starting with the helpful lady at the ticket office and continuing with the staff on board. The boat was clean and comfortable. Since I went mid-week on the first day of school after summer vacation, the group going out was small and everyone got to see everything without pushing or shoving. The expert on the boat started with an interesting presentation of what type of marine life we could encounter before we took off. She then came around, talking with passengers individually and answering questions. I also noticed that they were very good with several small kids on board. We soon saw a big pod of dolphins, followed by 2 minke whales and 6 humpback whales, plus a seal in the distance. It was an amazing experience! The captain steered the boat safely closer to the whales, so we could get a great look at them and their various behaviors. It was by far the best Whale Watch due to the patience with which the crew followed the whales and all the information given with great enthusiasm. They also seemed to take a different route back to Gloucester because we got an incredibly close, beautiful view of the twin lights on Thatcher Island, which I had never seen on other tours before. Five stars all the way!

Amazing Customer Service

Our son had never been on a whale watch and we booked with Capt Bill well in advance. We were so excited and even spent time researching whales that we may have encountered. WELL, our son came down with a very high fever the day before the whale watch. I called Capt Bill & Sons to explain our disappointment and cancel. To my surprise, they are sending us vouchers that do not expire (after redeeming our groupon) to use next summer. WE CAN NOT WAIT to be able to finally go. Thank you Capt. Bill & Sons for providing us with such excellent customer service.

LOVED OUR TRIP WITH CAPTAIN BILL!

We saw tons of wildlife this weekend!! Total of 7 humpback whales (some were very close to our boat), two Fin Whales in the distance, two harbor seals and several Atlantic white-sided dolphins. The best part was being able to watch a rare behavior called the “flipper smack.” Which is when the whale smacks the water with his/her side flipper.

Another great thing was that our boat was not overly crowded. We were able to move around the outside and switch to the other side of the boat for better views. (We did see two other whale watching boats and they were totally packed with people ... with no option for moving around.)

Lastly, our guides were very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed our day on Captain Bill’s boat.

Das war einfach mega! Eine Whalewatching-Tour mit Sichtungsgarantie, welche auch bei uns erfolg hatte. 2 Buckelwale, ganz nah. Mega schönes Erlebnis. Super organisiert, tolles Personal. Tipp: beim buchen die Tablette kaufen, etwas Essen/Trinken mitnehmen und einfach gemiessen. Kamera nicht vergessen!
