We attend at least one performance at Shakespeare & Company every time we stay in the Berkshires. They have added additional outdoor performance spaces in response to the Covid pandemic, and our theater was outdoors. It was comfortable, small enough to feel like a personal experience, and the performance itself was wonderful. We highly recommend this theater company.

We recently had a chance to see a production at the New Spruce Theatre during our recent visit to Lenox. We saw a very fine performance of King Lear starring Christopher Lloyd. We have visited the theatre many times but this was our first visit to the new outdoor theatre. it is relativetly small and intimate, and visitors shoudl be aware that there is no cover in the event of inclement weather.
We are so lucky to have this wonderful institution in New England. Is is a great experience and a wonderful attraction for both locals and visitors.

We watched King Lear at the New Spruce Theatre - the seating was perfect (and comfortable). They had COVID seating charts in place - seat skipped between each group so you felt comfortable. We could hear all actors (row D on the left close to the middle) and see the action. The play went over the 2 hour 50 minute run time which was fine with us as well as it appeared the entire audience.
It had rained during the day and just finished half an hour before the show. The staff made sure to dry off all of the seats so it was a non-issue for us. It was a great location and all of the actors did a wonderful job!

Good staging, intimate theater. Be prepared to fend off mosquitoes. Not all actors are equally capable of projecting in an outdoor setting. I saw Christopher Lloyd in King Lear; his voice was not equal to the requirements of the open theater. Hard to hear him; not a problem with most of the other actors. If you don't have keen hearing, are sitting in the back, rent one of the listening assistant sets on offer.

Beware of inclement weather at the New Spruce Theatre. There is ZERO cover from rain or sun.
As the afternoon sky drew darker and winds stronger, the entire audience knew a storm was minutes away. Management rolled the dice and lost. Just ten minutes into King Lear at the New Spruce Theatre, it was a dash to the playhouse along a muddy path with seniors trying not to get run over. The staff appeared untrained and unprepared.
Out went the Covid protocols - hand-sanitizing, pod seating, social distancing, etc. Instead, the playhouse theatre doors opened and everywhere sat wherever they wished. We were reminded to maintain 3 foot social distancing. Really?
Oh, and it is difficult to hear in the New Spruce Theatre. Headsets are provided, but acoustics are not nearly as good as the playhouse.
There are zero concessions at present - no food, no drink. One water fountain. With the performance ending just before 9 pm (5:30 scheduled start), Lenox had gone to bed on a weekday night. We were forced to drive home and eat leftovers.
Shakespeare &Co. management does not have its act together. Unimpressive!

Just attended the first performance in the New Spruce Theater (also my first time in the Berkshires). The outdoor theater is amazing. It was an unusually cold July evening, and the first preview of King Lear went over the expected three hours, but being able to enjoy live theater again was great!

We've seen half dozen performances. All great. In the past few years two or three they have worked diligently to make everything better. A place to support. Our granddaughter has gone to the summer camp the past two years. She has already asked if she can do it again this summer. Has helped her a great deal in her self image. Thank you Shakespeare & Company.

Saw a Donald Margulies play at the Elayne P. Bernstein theater. Great writing with an outstanding cast & set design. The theater is intimate, and there's not really a bad seat in the house. Shakespeare & Co. is a Berkshires institution; these guys know what they're doing. If you're at all interested in theater then by all means, go.

We arrived about 11:30 and expected about 2 hour stay. We left after 4:00. If you take the time to hear all the talks which are worth it to understand the complex than you will stay all day. Would not miss the talks because missing why you are there. Just loved the place because the talks brought the place with meaning and understand. Worth the price. Gift shop and cafe very good

We attended the Merry Wives of Windsor performance on August 16th. It was our first visit to Shakespeare & Co. We will go back next year! The performance was very well done by everyone in the cast. The sound effects added some very clever "notes". Our only suggestion would be for them to explore some sort of padding for the backs of the benches and try to extend the seats a bit so they give more support to folks with longer legs. The chairs looked very nice!

Hi, approximately how long are the shows? One says 90 minutes but the rest don't give a time. I have to ask because I have a little one I have to schedule for:) first timer-thanks!

My experiences have been that one or two person plays, with no scene or costume changes, usually go straight through 90-100 minutes with intermission. As the number of actors/actresses on the stage increases or the scene/costume changes are needed to move the play along, then there is one (in rare occasions - two) intermissions. Best bet is always call the Box Office and hope they have the information handy.
