My girlfriend and I had an excellent time exploring the Housatonic River with Berkshire Canoe Tours. We went on our morning kayak tour last week to catch the fall foliage and it did not disappoint. The river itself is excellent for both novice or experienced kayakers. Our guide, Arianna, was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the river and its ecosystem. She pointed out beaver lodges and the different wildlife that are native to the river. The equipment (life jackets, kayaks, etc.) that was provided were all in excellent condition. Arianna took pictures of us along the way and promptly emailed them at the conclusion of the tour.
The tour lasted a little over 2 hours and you can choose between a single kayak, double kayak or a canoe. Getting to the boat ramp with directions provided was extremely easy and straightforward. In addition, Arianna had the kayaks in the water and equipment ready for us when we arrived (we arrived about 10-15 minutes early).
If you are visiting the Berkshires, this is a must do activity. The kayak tour was one of the highlights of our trip and we cannot wait to come back to do an evening tour!

Arianna and Rebecca are friendly and competent. They pointed out beaver lodges, local flora and overall gave an informative talk as we paddled on the river. You can tell they really love the Berkshires and nature in general. The flatwater kayaking was easy and enjoyable!

We had the best time with Hillary and her daughter Adrianna on the morning kayak trip on the Housatonic River. They are both extremely knowledgeable about the fauna and flora of the area. They have wonderful personalities and are extremely friendly. You will have a great time with them kayaking or canoeing.

My wife and I had a fantastic canoe trip with Hilary and Arianna today. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Both guides are very knowledgeable about the river and great at spotting all sorts of interesting wildlife activity. We cannot wait to return with our kids for another river adventure.

Such a pleasure to see the nature of the Berkshires with a tour that, despite the gloomy weather, was full of joy and appreciation. If you love nature you'll love this guided tour of a small portion of the Housatonic River. If you are a beginner at canoe or kayak, no fear, this is less a test of strength in the water and more a chill experience in nature along the river. The guide(s) provide historical and natural information about the things you see and hear. This is easily one of the highlights of our trip to the Berkshires.

All I can say is worth every penny! I was interested in a kayaking or canoeing experience with my family which included people from age 76 to age 7. Hilary was full of knowledge and helped us to feel comfortable. Her daughter, Arianna was there as well to help guide us along with another family. Their enthusiasm was contagious, especially for my 7 year old son who was a little wary. What I didn't expect was the deep knowledge of and respect for the ecology of the river, getting so see beaver dams and lodges and turtles. It was delightful. I hope to do it again soon!

This was a perfect getaway for my wife and I. Just looking for a relaxing way to see the sights, get some activity, and enjoy the water. Hillary was a great guide. She grew up on this river so she knows it inside and out. Gave us a great rundown on the beavers and how necessary they are to the entire ecological system. Highly recommended, particularly if you'd like to get out there on the river without having to experience whitewater.

Hilary was friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. Highly recommended! Try not to bump into the foliage alongside the river, though, or you may piss off a swarm of mosquitos!

Hilary is a passionate, knowledgable tour guide. We saw turtles, waterfalls made by beaver fans, thrashing Pike,, fish nests to name a few. She showed us how the river had changed over the years and how the ecosystems along the river were managed.
