As a history buff, I especially appreciated the older gentleman who has been working here since the 60’s who gave us the history of the place.
The museum itself is located near the historical Highlqnd Lighthouse, Cape Cod’s oldest lighthouse. The museum was once a hotel where the wealthy paid their $8 a week to get out of the city in the summer to enjoy their time by the ocean away from the heat and pollution of the city.
The museum consists of a number of interesting displays downstairs. Much of it is housed in the former hotel’s old dining hall. Upstairs, there are a number of rooms that each feature a theme approximating rooms from the old hotel. There’s a men’s bedroom, a woman’s bedroom, a child’s bedroom, a general store, etc.
The rooms and displays are well-done, and convey what it would have been like back when it was a working resort/hotel. The museum has a small entry fee, and you can use the receipt for a discounted rate for touring the nearby lighthouse. The museum and lighthouse are worth a trip on any day, but also make a great rainy day activity. PowerTrippers recommended!

The Jo & Edward Hopper room brings to life their summers spent in Truro: the clothing, diaries, a rug intricately patched, their side by side paintings conserved with great care sandwiched between turn of the century rooms that display with great authenticity a time when the museum was the first inn where visitors to Truro could spend the night.

A really enjoyable way to spend the day after breakfast. You get a quick 10 minute tutorial by one of the staff and then you can explore the two story house with a load of history. 7 bucks a head is worth your time.

I asked a question about an obscure property in Truro, and the man at the desk lit up with interest. The woman, Audrey, went into the research room while my daughter and I looked at exhibits, and she reappeared with a print out of the history of the property for me! So kind and astute! We loved the exhibits on the Hoppers, the salt works, and shipwrecks.

We visited during a rainy day on vacation. They have interesting exhibits on shipwrecks, life saving stations and a great local art temporary exhibit. It's a great way to understand how early visitors to the cape lived. Allow about an hour to go through this self guided tour.

It's small but packed full of interesting tidbits. The staff provided very interesting backstories. Price was worth it. Would recommend.

One of my favorite small museums on the Cape. They have some period rooms and whaling artifacts and they also offer programs for kids.

Museum is small but nice. The Highland House Museum is the old Highland House, a hotel built on the Highlands in 1907. It is an example of a turn-of-the-century summer resort hotel.Located near the Highland Lighthouse which is a must to see.
A visit to the museum provides fascinating insight into the lives of the people of Truro dating back to early European settlers and the Native Americans that preceded them.

$6 per adult to climb up the lighthouse. Not for the weak & claustrophobic. Just cool to be in one for a change, tour guide was informative & interesting. Worth the visit, took lots of good pics.
