Memorial bastante reciente a los Gaiteros que murieron en la Gran Guerra. Si la escultura del memorial es bonita y atractiva, y puede hacer honor a lo que representa, el entorno donde esta situado el memorial, sobre todo el fondo, no le hace ningun favor a visualizar el memorial.
Zona de paso, completamente rodeada de cientos de lugares a visitar, con lo que parar y ver el memorial cuesta muy poco. Y unas fotos de recuerdo.

Encore un monument en mémoire des soldats de différents pays, région ou profession qui ont perdu la vie durant ce premier conflit mondial. À voir sans plus, d’autres valent vraiment le détour.

Not sure why someone would call it a “weird statue”
My father was responsible for the idea, having taken tens of thousands of veterans and families all over the Somme (over 48 years) , he realised there was no dedicated memorial anywhere, to the brave pipers (who were always “first over the top “,with nothing to defend themselves) , after fundraising (£35,000) it is indeed a one off , co-designed , then built by a midlands sculpture Andy decomyn (look up his website, amazing work)
It is certainly not the typical type statue on the Somme, this is why it is loved by many tourists, visitors, pipe bands, and the locals !!
My parents have a house in the village , (350 live here)
Sadly my father passed away In October , so we, the family are currently designing a memorial bench to be placed near the statue “known as MAC the piper” , which will overlook , the statue, cafe, village hall, french memorial , and the road upto delville wood

The Pipers Memorial in Longeuval at the crossroads is often driven passed by visitors to the area. Try stopping next time and have a walk around the statue. The background wall with the capbadge shows the breath of diversity of the British who fought In The area.

I found this memorial by accident on the corner of a junction. A great tribute to the Scottish pipers who bravely gave up theirs lives. A beautiful inscpription.

But glad we did! Being from Scotland and having a father who was a piper, we were very pleasantly surprised to come across this memorial. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The Pipers memorial is in the centre of the village of Longueval. Being all white its hard not to see it! Across the road you will find a French Memorial.

It was a great surprise to come across this relatively new memorial to the Pipers who had helped to keep up the morale of the various regiments involved in battles in this area. It s sited in the middle of the village with a rather unattractive background, but it is well worth stopping to look at all the regimental badges which surround the piper on his pedestal - about 30 in total.

It's a curious looking statue, definitely a one-off, with an odd sort of expression on its face. Worth seeing for its curiosity value if for nothing else!
