Cementerio de los que podiamos considerar de "grandes", tanto por su tamaño, como por la cantidad de victimas que aqui se les recuerda ( con, o sin tumba ).
Uno de los mas espectaculares de la zona, salpicada de bastantes cementerios ya que aqui hubo varias ofensivas, tanto de un lado como del otro. Muy interesante para visitar y recorerlo, en particular el muro que sirve de memorial a los 1.200 oficiales y soldados de Nueva Zelanda que murieron en esta zona.
Uno de los mas espectaculares de la zona, salpicada de bastantes cementerios ya que aqui hubo varias ofensivas, tanto de un lado como del otro. Muy interesante para visitar y recorerlo, en particular el muro que sirve de memorial a los 1.200 oficiales y soldados de Nueva Zelanda que murieron en esta zona.

A wonderful, well kept cemetery that honours many New Zealanders that lost their lives in WW1.
Also the original resting place of the unnamed NZ soldier.
Well worth the visit.

My great uncle is commemorated on the memorial wall at this cemetery.
The cemetery looks as though it is on a raised dais.
It is kept tidy by the CWGC.
It is in a quiet areas and you can see the valley on both sides.
Well worth the visit.

The New Zealanders got touched up at Gallipoli like everyone else and landed in France some 15000 strong ! In just 3 weeks of fighting they lost approx 7000 of these men but in true Kiwi spirit they rose above and got to the end ! This beautiful cemetery pays homage to the men of the long white cloud !

So many soldier lost their lives so far away from their homelands. A moving and somber experience. So many cemeteries are scattered around this area.

As with all of the cemeteries of the First World War this is a thoughtful place to think about all of the people that died in this war. Magnificently kept by the CWGC.

Beautiful cemetery in the depth of Caterpillar Valley. This place has seen some fierce fighting during the Somme campaign. Information found in the registers present at all CWGC sites teaches you about what happend in that specific location.

Sadly many of my countrymen are buried here and in many other places in Northern France & Belgium. It was with respect that I travelled from New Zealand nearly 100 years from when the battle started on the Somme.
The body of the unknown warrior was taken from his grave and transferred to Wellington NZ. He laid in State in Parliament before being placed in a special tomb. Just as I paid my respects in Parliament, visited his tomb in Wellington I have now visited his grave at Caterpillar Valley.
There is also another NZ Memorial at the other end of Longueval on Rue du Calvaire.
We will remember them.
