The Detroit Synphony is a treasure in our community. The musicians are some of the most talented in the in our country. The DSO series gives a variety of musical experiences from classical, jazz, pop, to even hip hop. Musicians from all over the country and world perform at the DSO. It is family friendly with children concerts too.

Saw the DSO Home Alone show at Christmas and it was absolutely wonderful! The DSO is a true treasure of Detroit and Michigan.

We took advantage of the DSO's free concert to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Orchestra Hall on October 23, 1919. The program was 100 Years of Pop, with the first half all music that was played on that opening night in 1919, and the second half music highlighting the history of the building and the music that was played there since the late 1930s. Stunning selection of music for this Centennial celebration. Loved the enthusiasm of guest conductor Leslie Dunner in his return, some 21 years after his last performance in Orchestra Hall. On display in the atrium is Horace Dodge's 1920 Model 30 coupe. Following the concert, Part 1 of a 6-part PBS series on the Hall's history was shown. And there were free cupcakes on the way out. Very classy of the DSO! Already looking forward to our next time hearing our wonderful Detroit Symphony Orchestra!!

Saturday night my husband and I attended the Detroit Symphony. The concert was well done. The auditorium is not as large as many other symphony halls and this makes the concert much more intimate. The audience is relaxed and not stuffy. The music was outstanding. The program was well done. Parking is right across the street and very reasonable. The sound in the auditorium is exceptional. The symphony has special programs for children and families. We will go again as soon as it fits our calendar. I would recommend the symphony to any music lover.

First time at the DSO: loved it!
We went for the Vivaldi Gloria at the Orchestra Hall. And although only balcony seats were available the view was great and the acoustics were of course excellent.
The rows of chairs are tight I must say. But chairs are comfortable.
We had dinner elsewhere not knowing that there are two eating options inside the DSO: there is some sort of catering where you can purchase small plates. For a more formal dining experience there is Paradise Lounge, located just one level below the entrance to the balcony seats. You must make reservations in advance via phone or by writing to paradiselounge.org.
It is convenient to purchase parking tickets at the same time you purchase the concert ones. The parking deck is located in Parsons St (between Woodward and Cass). Be aware: the Woodward side of Parsons’s is closed in concert days, so plan to enter via Cass.

DSO did a great job on Friday night with 80's music. They had two fabulous singers who were sounded great and were funny on top of it. The director was energetic and a joy to watch. My only caution is about the venue. We were in the balcony and the sight lines are terrible. We were at the front of the second section of the balcony at Orchestra Hall and I couldn't see over the railing. We were also too high up to see what was going on with the singers at the front of the stage.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is one of the best from the classics to the contemporary series and other special concerts in-between. it is a beautiful setting with terrific audio and intimate to a degree. There is nothing more special than a stage wall -to-wall with musicians filling the space with vibrant music. When in Detroit, try to get tickets and just enjoy as you can't go wrong!

Excellent performance of some of the best Hollywood soundtracks. Magnificent Seven, Jaws, Empire Strikes Back and more. Great show, great orchestra!

One of nice things about being in Detroit, is going to Orchestra Hall with it's amazing acoustics and hearing The Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The DSO performs a wide range of music. On the evening I went, they were performing music that many of us grew up with – music from Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoons. The combination of seeing the cartoons while the music was played, made the evening a whole lot of fun. If all that wasn't enough, Santa Claus himself was there that evening. He said I was a good boy this year.
Orchestra Hall is a comfortable and beautiful venue in which to see and hear this outstanding orchestra play. Everyone I encountered the evening I was there, was friendly and helpful. I picked up a couple of nice souvenirs in their gift shop.
In addition to having a parking garage, Orchestra Hall can be reached by Detroit's QLine, which runs along Woodward.

This is one concert you won't want to miss! Thoroughly entertaining! The excellent Detroit Symphony Orchestra accompanying Warner Bros. cartoons was so much fun! You'll smile and laugh out loud throughout the evening. For us boomers - it brought back wonderful memories of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies!

Hi, great question. And the wonderful answer is what ever you want to wear. A few people are way too casual and some are dressed 'to the nines'. I like wearing nice outfits and so I dress as business casual. My husband is not fond of suits and does not always bring a sport coat, but he looks very clean cut and acceptable. So you can express yourself!!!! :)

When we went to the DSO we ate at the Zenith. You have to drive there but it was worth it. Great menu, funky decor, good prices. I wrote a review you can look up that mentions some items on the menu.
