Nice clean campground. Typical sites and amenities for a Michigan state park. Plenty of picnic tables and grills by the lake for use. Couple of pavilions one could rent. Disc golf course (we didn't use) was well mapped out. Horse riding trails (we didn't use). Hiking/mountain biking trails were beautiful, but finding the trail head was difficult to find. Once we did the trails are well marked.

We have mountain biked and XC skied here but never stayed. We had a great time summer camping in the rustic walk in sites. They are secluded and off one of the hiking/ biking trails. The beach was a short trail bike ride down the hill. We found the facilities clean and well maintained. Loved the swimming beach, mountain bike trails, dog beach and how it felt so remote, yet 30 minutes from Lansing. Of particular delight was the excellent stargazing! We will definitely come camping here again. Staff were friendly too.

This may be an older camp or the DNR was trying to save money when it was built. Most electrical posts are designed to accommodate at least 2 adjoining lots, and as many as 4. This in itself is not a concern until you realize the posts are way too far away to reach without an extension. We tried several lots and couldn’t reach any of the outlets. We finally met a couple who saId they had extensions at the office. So, we finally got set up with an extension cord from the camp office and decided to walk to the beach. Our site was adjacent to the path leading to the beach so we figured we could use a little walk. The path led to another path that led to a parking lot for the beach. After crossing the parking lot we still had to cross a large yard/park that finally opened onto the beach on this small lake. It was all very scenic, but we weren’t expecting a major hike to see the beach. Showers are nice. They also have a neat ice cream vending machine that I had to check out for scientific purposes only. For a Michigan state park we were quite disappointed.

Very nice park. Most of the sites are quite private. Paved site pads and paved roads. Difficult to park large RV's because it have narrow drives and lot's of trees. Overall it was a good experience.

This experience was terrific - and it was -4 windchill on the first night with 25 mph winds coming off of Lake Ovid! That says a lot for this place. Superbly comfortable cabin with shower, toilet, bath sink, and kitchen nook with coffee maker, microwave, sink.....bedrooms were very cool with bunkbeds in each and a chair so you can change. The main living room is awesome and the carpentry is amazing. Radiators in each bedroom and bathroom with a heater in the living room. Perfect experience. Great job, DNR!

Peaceful waters full of fish and it's great for kayaking.
Reflections of the sky on the water are awe inspiring.
I will visit again when I'm in Michigan.

I frequent Sleepy Hollow to trail ride (horses). We also go to enjoy the walking trails and the beach. We have not camped in the main campground, but the spots seem nice sized, with some privacy in between sections. Always clean, always well kept grounds etc.

I go to Sleepy Hollow multiple times to camp. It is a great price, all sites have electric and cement slabs. The sites are large enough to accommodate a couple of tents or camper and a tent. Bathrooms and showers are clean and nice.

We just returned from a weekend stay at this park. This was our first visit, and we were extremely disappointed. I am not sure why everyone raves about it, but my guess is that most of those people have never camped in one of the usual state parks that we camp at on the western side of the state. They are well staffed and well maintained.

For starters, Sleepy Hollow is understaffed. The poor college age girl at check in around 7pm had her hands full with 2 checkins, a guy buying ice and a persistent customer on the phone. We never saw a single staff member drive through the park to patrol things, like other parks. We are all for people having a good time, but even we have a point where it’s too much. Our neighbors were VERY loud and still going strong at 2:20am by their campfire. I’m sure they carried on later, but I finally fell asleep. A patrol would have possibly helped. We did consider driving up to the check in booth to report them, but who would come handle the situation if they only have one employee on staff? And probably no one at that hour anyway. Rules (like quiet time) are great, but who is enforcing them?

Our asphalt site had very low branches hanging overtop from a walnut tree. We had to carefully back THROUGH the leaves of the branches to get parked on our site, and then we a problem with the antenna being IN a branch. We have a small travel trailer, not a tall fifth wheel or motor home. They would NOT have fit on this site without doing damage to their trailer. This branch needs to be trimmed, but by who?

Our fire pit was full of ash to within about 3 inches of the top. Not safe. It really needed to be emptied, but again, by who?

As warned when we made the reservation, the electrical system is old and we needed a long cord. FOUR sites share a post, two per box. We brought two cords and it still barely reached. We had to run it through the brush (which contains poison ivy, by the way), to make it work.

The beachhouse/bathhouse is rundown and unmarked. My son attempted to use it and found the doors locked. The swimming area is small and kind of gross. Same goes for the fishing dock, which is right next to the swim area. There also aren’t a lot of people at this secluded beach. This can be nice, but it also is a bit creepy, especially with some of the clientele that were around.

The campground bathrooms looked outdated, but we never used them so I can’t speak to their conditions on the inside. If the dump station was any indication though...oy. Too small for trailers to enter from both sides, but because there is no signage, that’s exactly what everyone was trying to do. They have two ‘community’ sewer hoses that SHARE one hole. Poo everywhere in the ground. The nearby dumpsters were overflowing.

Not that it is the park’s concern, but be forewarned: there is little to no cell signal for Verizon within the campground.

We have camped HUNDREDS of nights in state parks over the years. These two nights were near the very top of the list for the worse. We will NOT return.

While tent camping at Sleepy Hollow State Park, we thoroughly enjoyed the sandy beach on Lake Ovid, our shady campsite on the northside of the campground, the children's playground area, and disc golf course. We noticed that the campsites here offer much more seclusion than other MI state parks, with trees/shrubs between, however, some sites may not be conducive to tent camping, as each site has a large cement pad. We really enjoyed our shady site on the north side. The campground posts notices about raccoons, make sure you put all of your food away in the evening! We had a visitor come help himself to our graham crackers in the evening. The beach was very clean and shallow, great for little kids. The views at the lake are beautiful, as this is an undeveloped lake, not a house in sight! Kayaks and paddle boards are available to rent. There is a large restroom at the beach and some pavilions and picnic tables, as well as swings. The disc golf course runs along the lake near the beach, and was really fun! The kids really enjoyed the large playground. There are also swings, a sandbox and a horseshoes court and built in ladder ball and bean bag toss game (you can check out the items needed to play from the campground). The restrooms were older but clean and the staff was very friendly. The campground host offers a lot of fun activities for families throughout the week. Lots of wildlife to see in this large state park. We really enjoyed our stay at Sleepy Hollow, we would definitely come back!
