Nice drive but pick only a couple of spots to stop at. I would highly recommend the three rondavels, Lisbon falls and George lift valley. All the spots have an entrance fee. Pack some food to eat on Route because the spots have very little food options and there are no rest stops in between. Graskop is a small town with limited food options. If you plan to stop here overnight know the prices will be high for what is on offer due to its remote location.

Hier sollte man sehr vorsichtig fahren!

You really need a day to comfortably see all the main sites. I stayed overnight in Graskop as a base and worked my way up the route. I started at Gods window but that was unfortunately very misty both in the morning and later again in the afternoon, so I took in Lisbon and Berlin falls which are nearby. Bourke’s luck potholes was further en route and had more facilities including a cafe for a bit of lunch. The highlight for me was the Three Rondavels and full view of the Blyde River canyon, it was simply breathtaking. It’s the third largest canyon in the world and the largest green canyon.
If staying in Graskop its worth checking out the Graskop gorge lift company which is only 5 minutes out of town. You can walk across the suspension bridge and take a lift down to the valley floor where there are boardwalks through the rain forest with lots of information boards explaining the flora and forna.
The Panorama route is well worth doing and possibly underrated as there is lots to see and the views are magnificent. I highly recommend.

What a nice route to take. We started our journey from Mashishing (Lydenburg).
We drove the Long Tom pass to Sabie. we also stopped at the Long tom cannon but be careful it's a bit deserted. It's still a nice piece of history.
Stopped to check out the Sabie waterfall then of to Graskop where we drove up and down to all the recommend stops.

Make sure you start early (say 07:45 if staying in Sabie) so that you have sufficient time to be able to see everything. There are plenty of stops along the way and, even though some are super quick, we still didn’t have time to make it to the very end to see Echo Caves.

We set aside 2 days to explore the area but we needed more time!
When we visit again we will be sure to -
1 - Do a bit of research before you go, there is so many places to visit and easy hikes to enjoy.
2 - Visit the waterfalls - pack a swimming costume for quick dips
3 - Bring cash for curios and every waterfall viewpoint has an entry fee (R15 per person at most)
4 - Drive out and start at the Three Rondavels viewpoint and then make your way back to Graskop.
5 - Return to God's Window in the late afternoon. The haze seems to burn off through the day.
6 - Pack a picnic. While there are no places serving food, there are plenty of good picnic spots!
7 - Remember the sunblock.

A MUST if you're ever staying in the area of Graskop. We took a whole day to travel north of Graskop. Started at Pinacle Rock then God's Window was a long stop as its a lot of steps up to the most spectacular view (which they say on a clear day you can see the sea by Maputo). Don't bother with Wonderview, it's overgrown and not maintained and after God's Window, rather depressing. Then we went on to Lisbon Falls (if you have time try and find the correct pathway to the bottom of the Falls. We couldn't and got stuck on a cliff and just turned back but we saw peoples photo's when they got back and I was upset we didn't find the right path) and then Berlin Falls is beautiful but you can't go to the bottom so it's just a quick stop for R15 ea. Then up to Bourkes Luck Potholes where we spent quite a lot of time! This stop is a MUST!! It's well maintained and worth the trip. A bit further north is The three Rondavels which you can see from the R532 but if you want a closer look for photos, you can pay and drive in. Most of the places were between R15-R30 pp for entrance so it was affordable for the perfect photo's!
Graskop has the gorge and and glass lift as well as the Big Swing and ziplining across the gorge. That all takes some time too and with restaurants there, you can spend another whole day there. It's R40 each entrance but if you do one of the activities, you don't pay entrance. If you take the glass lift to the bottom of the gorge, there is a beautiful walk to follow through the trees and at the bottom of the waterfall.
South of Graskop, you need another day to view all the waterfalls to Sabie. After Mititsi Falls at Graskop, we stopped at Forest Falls but they said it was a 3km hike to the Falls and it was drizzling, so we gave it a miss. Then at Mac Mac Falls there's a short walk till you get a lookout where you take photos. Then we moved on to Sabie. Sabie Falls is beautiful but the surroundings are depressing. Stop anyway because it's only R15ea and it's 2 beautiful Falls (Sabie and little Sabie rivers fall down into one.
Then....a really long terrible potholed road (you can't even call it a road) but at the end of it is Lone Creek Falls which was absolutely beautiful!!! We also went to Bridal Veil Falls but it was a total waste of time because there wasn't much water flowing and there was no veil bit they said in December it's more spectacular.

Good day all,
Please assist.
I would like to go on a holiday in Mpumalanga. I would like to know, firstly where I can stay for 3 nights. The place has to have beautiful mountain views preferably. Secondly, I would like to visit the Panorama route , long tom pass and sudwala. When doing the visits, where do I start from?
Thanking you all in advance.

Hi,
Last year around this time I booked at Bush Baby Glen lodge at Sabie. It's about 11 KM from Hazyview. I close to the Elephant Sanctuary and I could drive to other nearest places from the, including Panorama. I hope they answer the rest of your questions:
Address: R536 Rd to Sabie

Hi, We have half day and one night on the Panorama route, how is it best spent?
We'd like to see some natural sights/ viewpoints on the Panorama route.
It all looks beautiful, so it's difficult to narrow it down. Also we cannot tell how long these drives will really take.
Itinerary
(After 6 nights in Kruger)
Day 7 - early drive west from Balule Satelite camp, out of Orpen Gate, spend afternoon exploring Panorama route (what do u recommend?)
Stay over one night at ?
Next day leave to drive to JHB for 8pm international flight.
Recommendations on best use of time we have are appreciated.
Thanks for your help
Jo

I would view the Three Rondavels and Blyde River Canyon (1 hr), then go to Berlin falls (5-10 min), Wonder view (5 min), Pinnacle Rock (30-60 min) and lastly, Lisbon falls (5-10 min). God's Window is beautiful (same view as Wonder view, but the experience and what you see before the view is amazing)... It does take more time (more than 2 h)... Bourke's Luck Potholes also takes more than 2 h, so if you have time do God's Window or Bourke's Luck Potholes... If I had to choose I would do the latter and see God's Window when I visit again...

I will reach Joburg from George by 11 am on 21 July and plan to hire a vehicle at the airport and drive to Kruger but on way would like to visit panaroma route and /or haze view.
We plan to stay enroute somewhere on 21 July ,and on 22 morning proceed to Kruger doing panaroma route.
Is that feasible.
Thanks

Rakesh62,
I would not advise you to do the Panorama route on the day you arrive it is going to be winter which means it is getting dark earlier. It is at least a four hour trip which is going to leave you with very little time. Rather do that trip when you exit the Kruger.
Try to onernight in Hazyview. Hazyview is close to two gates, Phabeni and and Paul Kruger, but Sabie and Graskop are further away.

We are checking out of Klaserie mid morning and driving back to JNB this December - any tips on how to catch the highlights of the Route on the way back to JNB? We could spend a night on the way.

Hi Josh,
Would recommend a night in Graskop. The scenic route Graskop to Bourke's Luck is worthwhile and a fine example of the South African escarpment. Probably need to check at Klaserie whether best to head for Graskop and then go north, or whether can come down via Borke's Luck to Graskop. The drive to Joburg the following day is an easy one and interesting until you come back up to the Highveld which is pretty flat terrain.

We will be driving from Johannesburg on 08th April and will be staying at Graskop till 11/4/18. I would like to go half day tour to KNP on the 9th. To what I understand the tour starting at 5.30am. Should I take tour which the owner recommended for the price of Rand 775 per person where the pick up will be from our accommodation. Or should I drive all the way to KNP. Is it safe to drive in the dark. I am worried about our safety and might get lost.
Can you all give suggestion what should I do in the evening or on the 10th? The company also quoted me Rand 775 per person for half tour to Panaroma Waterfall from KNP which I think the price is high and half day should not be enough to cover all the scenery places that not be missed.
Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

Some good points from the previous responses. Graskop is a good base for your tour of the Panorama Route. Try not to cram all your visits into 1 day, spread them out and visit at leisure. You are on holiday, so enjoy. Set aside 1 day at least for KNP. Arrive there early, and plan your trip inside to meet with the exit times. Purchase a map at the entrance, which will indicate distances, and you can calculate your travelling time. Self drive (if you can) will be the ideal choice. However, be careful of potholes along the route. My last trip there was quite tense, trying to avoid potholes on the roads.

We’re heading there in early May. How much time should we plan to drive from Kruger to Jberg? Where would you suggest spending the night on the way to Jberg?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Dear Lisa,
From our hotel in Joburg to Krugerpark (depends on where your hotel/house is) is between 4,50 till 6 hours. We slept in Marloth Park and we hired a great villa for less money in this park. From the house we could see the Crocodile River and walking to that: 100 meters. To the gate of Kruger Park about 20 minutes. The house is off Duth owners and we booked it on the site of Micazu. The name Villa Khamkirri. We also booked theit a private gamedrive for us. We were with four adults. The house is for 8 adults.
After then we slept Blyde River Wildernis Lodge - Hoedspruit. A beautiful stay. Before starting the Panaroma Route we slept in Graskop.
If you have more questions: let me know. It depends on what you like.
Much pleasure. Me and my brother in law arranged the whole trip ourselves. Three weeks and a half.
