Couldn't ask for better selection of tackle and friendlier helpful staff.
Brian is a top quality guide, he put us on fish the entire day and offered lots of advice and shared his knowledge for the rest of our week in Traverse City.
I will use the shop and his services every time I visit.

By far the nicest fly shop in TC as well as most knowledgable. The staff there is top notch. Best selection of flies and fly tying materials and tons of gear. The guys in the shop will tell you if the fish are on and what they are eating and give you hints where it's happening.

I bought a fly-fishing guide trip as a gift for my husband. Upon the recommendation of an avid-fisherman friend, I called Brian at the Northern Angler. My husband had a fabulous time! Brian is an incredibly nice guy who is both a very skilled guide and fisherman. They caught a lot of fish! We love dogs so my husband was delighted that Brian’s dog joined them. She was perfect companion. He has gone with other guides; Brian was by far the best!
