An interesting geological gem that doesn't get a mention in the Adelaide tourist brochures. I found it by chance playing around on Google maps. It can be easily reached by train from Adelaide, but the walk down from the station is a bit steep at the end (meaning a steep climb going back). Keep an eye out for a small gate and path off to the right when you're heading down- it's a very short walk to a lookout over the bay and some rock formations. I arrived there at 8am which was a good call because it was still cool enough to be able to walk around at not get too hot. If you don't do heat very well, then early in the day is advised. Some good photography opportunities, but there are stairs involved.

Brilliant walk with views of both the beach and historic inland structures which have to be seen to be believed. Definitely worth a walk if in the region.

With Information notices about the Geological background to the coastline here, this walk was wonderful.

This is a beautiful family friendly spot for all to enjoy. A nice Playground situated in front of the ocean with plenty of well maintained lawn for activities or just to sit and capture the views. There are plenty of benches along the path. Toilet facilities located at the end of path on Heron Way as well as next to the café. We walked the boardwalk for about 4km to get to this spot and arrived just before sunset. Plenty of street parking available. There is also a bbq near a shaded area just past the playground.

We parked at the Boatshed, booked in for lunch on our return. Great geology history, easy to see and experience on the walk. We are in our 60s and 70s respectively. Good walkways, not much walking on dirt path. We did the whole walk which we found not to difficult or hard. Yes there are steps but they are well maintained and you don't have to rush. Lots of hand rails, seating, some signals to stop and read. We walked a narrow staircase down to the beach which we enjoyed and though worthwhile. Was windy on the day we visited in June from the Sunshine Coast so we had our down coats on and felt toastie and warm. Interesting walk by the water, on the coastline while learning. Please watch small children on small areas of the walk.

Een mooie wandeling over een houten looppad met een prachtig uitzicht over de oceaan. En door een mooi stuk natuur. Met kleine dalingen en stijgingen, maar goed te doen. Ik heb copd en heb het toch goed kunnen doen. Ook zijn er verschillende soorten vogels te zien. We konden een valk van dichtbij bewonderen. Aan het begin is er een klein restaurant waar je wat kunt drinken en eten. Het is echt de moeite waard om naar toe te gaan. En de wandeling is echt een aanrader.

Completed the boardwalk and sugarloaf, excellent views and great spot. We started out at the cafe end and followed the signage to the sugarloaf and cut across to the boardwalk.

Don't overlook the beach and its stones which lay all over it. These were place by the local river thousands of years ago. Extrapolating on this each stone was taken from rocks ect by the river which were millions of years old. Each stone is a piece of natural history in itself. There was an embankment on the seaward side which diverted the river north and south. You can see when on the beach how the stones get smaller as you go north, showing the river had less power along that way.

The park combines geological features and beach views. A friend and I had originally walked the coastal section as part of the Marion Coast Walking Trail so this time I walked from the cafe and carpark at the end of Heron Way and then only went as far as the steps leading upwards towards the sugar loaf formations in the centre. This glacial hike section consists of boardwalks circling the central sugar loaf formation but it is also possible to do the gravel cliff walk around the top of amphitheatre looking out to sea. The terrain is undulating with a rise of over 50 meters from the shore. There are a number of other tracks to explore, some leading to Waterfall Creek. Since I had come by train I chose to stay at the higher level and exit at Dutchman's Drive and take Cherub Street to the Hallett Cove Beach train station.

We love walking along the boardwalk to Hallett Cove conservation park and then through the park back to the boardwalk. The views are magnificent! Sunsets are so picturesque.
