Went to do a reccy for a group walk in August . Followed the green map, the only one plus directions we could find. Got hopelessly lost and ended up asking directions at the archery , paintball centre. We were told we were about 5 miles off Sandy Lane car park. Asked a young 4 some with a baby and dogs. The car driver offered to run us back to our car from the car park with log piles.He took us plus daughters dog to the beginning of Sandy Lane and offered to take us all the way. How kind was that! We saw the wild horses and some airaid shelters. More signs could have helped this late 70's couple.So grateful for the lift. The baby was gorgeous, hope she had the nap she was due. The Drovers did a great lunch, revived the 3 of us. A better map and signs would help. Any ideas ,please?

On our doorstep Skipwith common has lovely routes for walks, you may even spot the Hebridean sheep, cows, horses and many wildlife animals. The common is very large and many walks you can take. With areas still present from WW2 which is great to read the history when walking around.
Access from different areas and parking available, you can visit rain or shine and we highly recommend to our guests visiting us.

Lovely walks in a well kept nature reserve that caters for all. All flat land and concrete paths that were part of the old world war 2 aircraft station so easy to get around. Very good for dogs although you have to keep them on a lead.

I dont usually review open spaces - feels like your begging review rewards - but this common is lovely with the added bonus of WW2 history.

Huge area with many walks, some easier and family friendly and others more difficult, but all well sign posted by colour coded posts/bollards. The kids loved den building, tree climbing, using the look out/observation tower and hunting for insects and wildlife. A great day out.

What a lovely place, so quiet and peaceful. I thought we might have an issue with parking but despite it being the weekend there was ample room. There are two small car parks and also an area at the side of the road. Visited with our grandchildren so we were a little restricted as to how far we could venture but thoroughly enjoyed the visit so much so that my wife and I returned the following day. We saw lots of long horn cattle together with their calves and dozens of Hebridean sheep.
There are several waymarked colour coded walks of varying distances and the site is very flat. The site is dog friendly but they must by law be on a short lead which makes sense considering the wildlife wandering free across the common.
Just bear in mind that there are no facilities so make sure you have planned ahead and packed a picnic etc

This is our first point of call for some afternoon exercise with the children. Nice enough, flat and never too busy. It is a little on the bland side of walks, but good enough when you live in a built up area.

A variety of walking and cycling routes across the common includes flora, fauna and historical interest experiences for the visitor to Skipwith Common at any time of year. Limited parking for access to the Common but a visit is well recommended.

Been Today with Oscar my dog, and found he was covered in the Peri little sticky plant. This has taken two hours to remove from his fur. So would suggest not letting the dog have a longer lead around here.

This place looks lovely was wanting to come here for a walk but struggling to find the car park on maps, is there an address or location or it? Thanks

Hi, Skipwith Common is a great place to visit of natural and historical interest. There are two car parks and if you use the 'What3Words' navigation location app you will find the car parks at: inviting.boardroom.rugs
and at: octopus.kennels.portfolio

Have the horses been removed from the land after the forest fire in April? I went today and saw no horses

The last time I went there the Sheep were certainly grazing, but I don't recall seeing any horses.

can you take dogs on the common ?

Hi, not sure if you will be able to let the dog off the lead as there is livestock roaming around. Cant see why you cant take them if they are on a lead and under control though. I did see people with dogs and on leads walking around so would think that the dogs only on leads rule would apply, as does in most public woodlands around the area. Hope that helps.
