The displays are on three floors and very well done. My daughter especially enjoyed the display on the upper floor of vintage medical equipment used by doctors and dentists in Lanesboro. There was a 1940s dental x-ray machine, an early 1900s medical light/lamp and a 1940s travelling EKG machine.
The person working there was very friendly and you could tell the pride that the volunteers take in the museum.
I will gladly stop back when I'm in the area again.

First time ever stopped in museum, though have been in Lanesboro seasonally. Explored museum as part of their 150th anniversary. Lot of interesting items related to Lanesboro history.

We like to stop in here to see the different things, you have to love the history . It’s good to keep the youth engaged and they do a good job .

We have been going to Lanesboro for years and rarely gave this building more than a glance. It's on main street right off the bike trail and pretty nondescript. It often wasn't open so we often wondered if it was still a museum. Then one day we saw it was open so we went in and were amazed, it's filled with so much information about the area and wonderful displays. Well informed and interesting volunteers are there to answer any questions you may have. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time because you'll need it to make the most out of this experience.

We thought why not stop in at the museum? It was full of cool old stuff from around the area! The (likely volunteer) attendant was welcoming and helpful.
We happily dropped some cash in the donation box on our way out. We spent less than 30 minutes, but a curious person could spend hours.

Admission to this small museum is by free will donation which makes the price hard to beat. They are in the process of updating the basement exhibits so missed out on some information. The staff person was friendly and easy to talk with about some of the local history like Buffalo Bill Cody. Mostly local displays and more recently donated items, but they do have a nice collection of historic Lanesboro pictures. A nice little museum with well documented exhibits. A pleasant place to spend some time.

Don’t let its diminutive size fool you. If your ever in Lanesboro during the summer and at all interested in local history this museum won’t disappoint!
We were there during the Rhubarb Festival (which is held the first Saturday in June each year) and being a history buff was really surprised by the amount of info and artifacts crammed into this place! Railroading back when, daily life, rooms set up as they would have been around the late 1800’s, old obituaries to pour over along with antique books to handle (gently, I might add), 1800’s wedding gowns and dresses, hand carved wooden clocks, medical equipment from local doctors living there from all decades, etc., etc. If you can think of it, it’s most likely there - somewhere.
There are three levels in which to visit. The main entry floor, the second floor and also a basement level though not too much there but the old washing machine was something to imagine using back then! The second floor is definitely worthy of the trip up the flight of steps.
As an added bonus, the gentleman who was there while we visited was most knowledgeable on every question I had too. They also had the contract and bill of sale for the old Lanesboro steel girder bridge that runs across the river right there next to the museum as well. Used to be the old Southern Minnesota Railroad bridge/rail bed right of way. It’s now used as a walking and biking trail.
Parking is abundant and free all around town and an easy walk to the museum. Museum hours are after 1pm and only during the summer months so if you get there a little early you can eat at one of the local restaurants right there in town then head over like we did after 1pm.
No, it’s definitely not the Smithsonian but then again Lanesboro isn’t exactly D.C. either. But if you are at all interested in the old days gone by, this place is definitely worth its weight in gold at any rate. Enjoy!

I went to this museum for the first time in June of 2016. I was with 6 family members. We all really enjoyed it. I must admit however that my parents were born and raised in Lanesboro and both sides of my family actually have stuff on display in the museum. That being said, there is a ton of interesting stuff packed into this little museum. Lots of neat historical photos and items. We managed to spend a good 2 hours in there. The staff was knowledgeable and was very happy to answer any questions we had.

A very nice museum with some vintage and some antique. Great collection from many sources locally. Got its start from a collection and some money from the town barber. He must of really appreciated the town and its people where he made his living. One of the by best finds in Lanesboro.

We stopped in to cool off a bit after biking and walking. Fun collection of many interesting things, from amazing wood carvings to war honors, photography equipment, medical devices, walking canes, wedding dresses, and on and on. Something for everyone.
A steady stream of visitors seemed just right without it being crowded.
There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome.
