A quick stop here to read about this tiny church. It was open the day we stopped. Interesting history...opened in 1828, survived the Civil War, was rebuilt after virtually being destroyed by a tornado in 1943 and remains a Mississippi landmark. It's close to the Windsor Ruins

We stopped here and snapped a few pics and learned about the Port Gibson Civil War battle. Right outside this church the troops marched down the road. Like many other structures during the Civil War, it was used to house the sick and the wounded.

Bethel Presbyterian Church opened in 1828, survived the Civil War, was rebuilt after virtually being destroyed by a tornado in 1943 and remains a Mississippi landmark. Located on Mississippi Route 552, one mile north of antebellum Canemount Plantation and three miles south of historic Windsor Ruins, at Bethel Cross Roads, not far from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Bethel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. During the antebellum era, Bethel served plantations in the area, students of Oakland College (now Alcorn State University), the once thriving community of Rodney (now a ghost town) and featured a slave gallery to accommodate one and all. Today, Bethel is a historical showpiece, lovingly preserved by members of the First Presbyterian Church in nearby Port Gibson.
