This is a little bit of an odd review because Risa did not take me out surfing. However, because she couldn’t, she set me up with another great instructor, and gave me tons of tips and pointers about how to get out and surf in Punta Mita/Sayulita when I wasn't with the other guy. She really knows her stuff. Also, the fact that she was so generous and helpful with reaching out to me was huge, and she made my trip great.
So yeah, Risa rocks.

Risa and Diego are not only amazing surfers, they're excellent and experienced *teachers*, which makes all the difference.
I have taken several short board lessons with Diego because I've been struggling to make the transition on my own. Each time I leave the water a more knowledgeable, capable, and confident short boarder!
They are so far above and beyond other "surf schools", many of which will try to sell surf lessons on days with the worst conditions. I have twice met Diego at the beach and rescheduled with him because the waves weren't big enough for our short board session and I think that says it all about how truly dedicated they are to quality and genuine teaching and learning.
There's really just no other way to say it—no other surf instructors or surf shops compare to them.

Risa and Diego are incredible teachers and people. Can’t emphasize enough how much they taught me over 3 weeks of lessons in Sayulita. They don’t just push you on the board so you feel like you had a fun experience and got your money’s worth after one lesson — they really push you to read the waves, paddle to catch them yourself, practice proper technique when standing up, and everything else in between. If you really want to learn how to surf and have a super fun time while doing it, then Risa and Diego are your people

Risa is the best in Sayulita!! We took numerous classes with Risa over 2 weeks, all were very exciting and fun. She not only helped us better our technique but also helped us understand how to read waves. She is great with beginners as well as more advanced classes.

While hanging out at the beach, we randomly came upon Risa and Diego teaching another families' kids and knew we had to find out how to get in on some of the action! We got Risa's contact info, and set up a lesson for my son and husband a couple days later. My son (7yrs) was a little worried about the surfing lesson, but Risa and Diego made him feel safe and confident - and excited about it! They gave him just the right amount of assistance, while encouraging him to do things himself (like bringing the board back out through the waves). My husband was surprised to get up the first time and learned some skills/techniques which will be a huge help when he goes out on his own. Risa and Diego are great teachers, and we can't wait to get back to Sayulita next year for some more lessons! Our son is hooked - thinks he's a surfer now!!

Words can't even describe how amazing it was to have Risa as my private surf instructor.
She goes above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable and that the conditions are safe enough for your level of difficulty.
And if need be, reschedule the session till the waves are more optimal.
She has an innate sense when to push you and when to hold back.
I loved working with her so much, I booked another week long trip just so I could have her as my private surf instructor again!
No matter what age or level of surfer you are, Risa will make your experience absolutely fun and unforgettable!
Book her at least a couple of weeks in advance, as she is in high demand :)

My girlfriend and I booked private lessons with Risa and Diego for three consecutive days while down in Sayulita. Both instructors were amazing: educational, clear communicators, supportive, and committed to our success. On our first day, we both rode about half a dozen waves successfully--way better than we expected! By the third day, I was riding a smaller board and practicing cutting across the waves. We never would have succeeded without them--and we can't recommend Risa and Diego highly enough. We are absolutely planning to book with them again when we return.
Don't hesitate. They are worth every penny--we even tipped them extra!!! Go and ENJOY!!!!

Risa and Diego were amazing teachers. All four of us in our family were able to get up and catch several waves. Ages 41, 17, 14 & 11. They are patient and encouraging. Definitely would use them again! My one regret, is that we forgot to take a group photo with all of us with the surf boards.

We booked an early morning lesson and it was fantastic! Risa and Diego were the nicest people. Patient, kind and knowledgeable. We have surfed in Hawaii a few times but this experience was the most enjoyable I highly recommend them!

My family and I have lived in the Sayulita area for over 3 years. I surf every day I can when I'm not gone for work and routinely see Risa and Diego out in the water with students. My son had several lessons with them earlier in the year. They are not only world-class surf instructors, fully fluent in English and Spanish, but also friendly, kind people with a beautiful vibe. I feel fortunate to have such a wonderful couple as Sayulita residents. If we have friends or family visiting us here and interested in surfing, Risa and Diego are the only instructors we recommend - which is saying a lot, since there are so many instructors in town.

Interested in group surfing lessons for 6 adults in early Dec 2020... 2 days (possibly 3). Ages ranging early 40s to late 50s but we are all fairly athletic and have done other water sports.
