The relaxed yet educational aspects of the tour! Phil was absolutely UNREAL and would do more tours with him in the future. He is so knowledgeable about the land, animals, etc. It was the most memorable part of our trip and we would do it 10x over!

I will preface this review by saying I do a ton of research before I book any tour company/restaurant/excursion/hotel etc.
Yellowstone Guidelines was simply top quality. My brother and I went on a day trip through Yellowstone during the time of the year when only 1 road is open. The prime reason for us going was to view wildlife. Phil Knight was our tour guide, and he was excellent and very friendly. We saw a ton of wildlife: golden eagle, bighorn sheep, elk, moose, wolves in the distance, and a ton of bison!
The roads were treacherous, but Phil was an excellent driver and guide. He knew exactly where the wildlife would be and was a great spotter too.
Would 100% go with Yellowstone Guidelines again. Thank you to Chris too for the communication prior to the day.

We booked a day trip and had Phil as a guide. It was a wonderful experience as we hit all of the highlights of the park and viewed ample wildlife as a bonus. Not only was Phil knowledgeable about the park but he provided extras such a coffee, snacks, lunch, and a telescope for wildlife viewing. I will definitely book with Yellowstone Guidelines again when I return to the park.

We booked this excursion and wasn't sure what to expect since half the park was closed for the road work to prepare for winter. We only toured the Lamar Valley with Gabriel and he was an absolute wealth of information on the wildlife as well as the terain. He was also very patient (we had baby with us) and had a great sense of humor.
I would book this again and ask for him!

We had an excellent tour with Yellowstone Guidelines. Phil was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. We saw lots of animals including an excellent wolf siting! He was patient with our questions and knew a lot about both the park and the wildlife. We would highly recommend doing a tour with this group.

My wife and I had a great trip with Phil Knight of Yellowstone Guidelines. We lived 2 years in Alaska and never saw a wolf in the wild. Luckily we spotted a Yellowstone pack resting on a hill! We could not have done it without Phil's expertise on how to efficiently tour the park. Even if we hadn't been fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Yellowstone's wolves we still saw lots of other great wildlife and learned a lot about the Park. Thanks for a great day Phil!

Our Yellowstone tour was pretty amazing! Our guide Bjorn (hope I spelled that correctly) was very knowledgeable and just a lot of fun. Made my friend and I feel very comfortable. He gave us plenty of photo ops and accommodated all our request for pics. He knows the park and really gave us a great tour. I really loved this tour, we spent about 8 hours with Bjorn, can’t say enough about him. Very friendly, talkative and gave us tons of recommendations for our stay.
Included in the tour:
Pick up and drop off from our cabin.
Lunch was provided
A clean vehicle
Knowledgeable guide.

Three of us backpacked in the Black Canyon for 4 days and 3 nights. We are all fairly experienced backpackers and have never used a guide before. We decided for this trip to use one. Our guide (Elizabeth) was excellent. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and observed what the groups needs were. She kept the pace set very nicely for me (age 70) so I never felt that I was pushing myself to hard.
We had planned to backpack the Lamar River trail but the flooding had shut that area down for the summer (not sure when it will reopen). After discussions with Chris, we picked the Black Canyon area as a substitute hike. The scenery was excellent all 4 days and we all enjoyed it. Saw a few wild animals (couple of lone buffalo and birds of prey) and lots of tracks and scat. As always, it pays to be prepared for hiking in the mountains at mile high elevation for any kind of weather. We had a couple of nights of lightning, thunder and heavy rain. One day, for a short period, it also hailed quite hard.
Elizabeth taught us the proper way to set up camp in bear country. The basic of hanging your food if there are no bear proof containers to put your food in at the campsite. Something new to us was don’t take your backpack with your food in it to the area where you will pitch your tent. First go to where you will store your food and cook your meals and empty all of the food in that area. Then go to your tent area.
Given all of the flooding in the park this summer the logistics were a challenge. As noted, we had to change where we wanted to backpack. Even then it was not until close to our trip that the north entrance opened up to commercial traffic only. The windows to get into and out of the park with your guide were very tight (7am to 715am to enter and 5pm to 515pm to leave). Luckily, we had decided to stay in Gardiner the nights before and after the hike. It would have been tough to travel to/from Bozeman to the trailhead given the short entrance/exit time windows.
A benefit to us of not being able to leave the park until 5 PM on our last day was we got a good 4- hour tour of the park as we finished hiking out around 1 PM. Thanks Elizabeth for taking us on this extra tour. It was excellent and we got to see a lot of the park and wildlife.
We asked Elizabeth what her favorite backpacking trips were in the park. # 1 for her was the Bechler River trail. She also liked the Lamar River trail.
Overall, we had a great adventure and Elizabeth was an excellent guide.
I would recommend using Yellowstone Guidelines for backpacking or day tours in Yellowstone.

Our family of 12 (5 adults and 7 children) spent two consecutive days with Yellowstone Guidelines Tours. Our two guides were Phil and Gabe. They were AWESOME!! We saw wolves, big horn sheep, coyotes, bison, elk, eagles, squirrels, deer.
Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and could answer any questions we asked.
They picked us up at our house in Gardiner, provided lunch.
We would definitely engage with them again! I cannot say enough positive things about this company.
