Having recently been restored from the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, the boardwalk and amenities all appear brand new. The beach is large with beautiful views of the Jersey Shore. Fishing available in the Shark River as it empties into the Atlantic.

Compared to Asbury Park, Bradley Beach, Avon-By-The-Sea, Belmar has the best boardwalk.

Clean level board walk. You can enjoy this walk early in the morning before the slow walkers get home n your way. Great to enjoy in the month of sept when the renters have all left

We went to Belmar for a day. I had noticed the beach patrol searching coolers and sniffing cups but got distracted by a phone call. While on the phone I headed off to the ladies room, and that’s when it got weird. A city employee was walking around shouting about a box and next thing I know this man got in my face and started verbally abusing me. The city employee was so vulgar, I got upset and went to take his picture, he posed.
I waved the beach patrol, to complain, and these condescending cop wannabes gave me a $350 ticket for a ( belmar noise violation)
Belmar is racsist and out of control, plenty of places to spend your money. I would avoid belmar at all costs

Went during the week for the day. Clean beach. Nice people. Parking is limited but if you get there early should have no problem. Parking is 2.00 an hour and 10.25 for beach pass. Well worth it!! Nice beach to take the family.

My wife and I are season-pass holders and travel here about once per week. We have also stayed at a local bed and breakfast last summer.
The entire area is well cared for with clean sand and a deep shoreline. Ther are also excellent restaurants on the beach and within a short drive.
The beach can get busy so arrive early!

Have enjoyed Belmar since being a child with my parents. Highly recommend it to all. Go early to get a parking space along the boardwalk or go for early morning coffee. It’s delightful.

Veterans and active duty service members are free, but bring ID. Also, early mornings and late afternoons are free for anyone. I am not a sun bunny and those are my favorite times to walk.

there are showers at the entrances for the beaches. Not to worry there. I have not seen anyone that was renting beach chairs and umbrellas. You can purchase them on the board walk. I would go to Walmart and get them. They are cheep and not worth renting.

I have never been to Belmar, Long Beach, Asbury Park or any of the Jersey Shore. Any recommendations ( restaurants, beach location, shops, etc) would be useful. A general description of what to expect would be awesome. Which town would be best a lazy long weekend , looking at the water but swimming in the pool.

I grew up in Belmar, so I have a soft spot for it. The beaches are some of the best on the east coast, but you have to purchase a beach pass. Belmar has some great restaurants, too; La Dolce Vita is exceptional and is right on Ocean Avenue, Brandl has excellent food and is a BYOB. Brandl is located in Pyanoe Plaza in the middle of town. Asbury Park is making an wonderful come back from a long recession that started in the late 60's. There are some great restaurants there and the beaches are free. One of my favorite restaurants is Moonstruck. The food and atmosphere are great. As far as places to stay, Belmar has some great Bed & Breakfasts, Asbury Park has the Asbury Hotel, the Berkeley-Carteret and some great AirB&B's. Long Beach is 40 minutes south of the Belmar/Asbury Park area and is on Long Beach Island. I personally would not recommend Long Beach in the Summer. The traffic is awful. Some would argue with me, but I prefer Long Beach Island off season. I hope that helps. Remember to read my road trip column in NJ Lifestyle Magazine! njlifestylemag

Rich is correct. Cheaper to buy umbrella plus they are cheaper to buy now 1/2 season over.
