En mi opinion los boletos son muy caros. No la pase bien alli. Siento que regale $20.
Solo pude ver un pequeño cuarto acerca de la guerra Franco-India y otro cuarto pequeño con una pelicula aburrida. No habian guias para acompañarme a ver otros ambientes.
(Tenia que esperar media hora, y debia retirarme del hotel). Encima, no me devolvieron el dinero y solo ofrecieron un voucher para que regresara luego (ni pienso regresar alli).
In my opinion it's too much money for the tickets. I didn't have a good time there. I feel I gave $20 away.
I could only see a small room with the French Indian War Exhibit and a small room with a boring movie. No guides were available at the time to escort me on the other rooms.
(I would had to wait half hour for that and I needed to check out at the hotel). And on top, no money back. Only a voucher so I could come back later (no way I'm coming back)...

We are Colonial American history buffs and wanted to visit this site, whose website’s homepage states (in big letters), “The Old Barracks Museum is welcoming visitors Wednesdays - Saturdays 10am - 5pm. No reservations required.” We drove here from Berks County, PA (an 80-minute drive) yesterday, only to find it closed to visitors for the day. (A man who met us at the door told us they were filming for a fundraiser.) There was nothing posted at their website; apparently, they posted it on Facebook only (we don't use Facebook and would never have thought to check that). What a big disappointment to drive all that way for nothing. Hopefully they will remember to update their website another time (and way before the morning of the closing!). Closing on one of their very few visiting days rather than, say, timing the filming to occur on a Sunday, Monday, or a Tuesday instead shows poor management IMO.

My son loves the Revolutionary time period. After viewing the website and FB page it appealed to both of us. When we arrived we opted to go on the tour. The tour guide was so knowledgeable about the barracks and the history of the time period. He was entertaining in the rendition of the history not dry and boring. HOWEVER, I inquired about the reinactor interpreters and musket firing which they showcase on the website and in the video. You will see NONE of that unless it is a special event. The guide told us that due to budget cuts, which was worse this year than in 2021, that the interpreters and musket firing has been eliminated!! The only people on premise is the guide and the person in the gift shop. We saw 3 rooms. The soldiers room, the medical office and the house, only bottom floor, due to damage sustained from tree. We didn't see the tailors, or seamstress area or other area. Disappointing that the facility misrepresents itself but like I mentioned earlier the tour guide was a 10. If looking for the items of interpreters and musket firing etc. I highly recommend East Jersey Olds Town Village in Piscataway N.J.

There's good information throughout the museum and what is presented through the tour. The guides knew their information backwards-and-forwards. The only disappointment was that we were under the impression that there would be others present, showcasing the time period. However, there were only two guides. As I said, they knew the material, but some of the uniqueness was lost.

Loved my weekday visit to the Old Barracks. Currently, as part of operating around the pandemic, reservations are required. However, you will be in an isolated group. There is a charge for adults and children, though if you are a local resident, you can take out a museum pass from the library. How cool is that?
This place is rich with history, actually at the heart of the American revolution. It was once the quartering place for infantry soldiers, especially of the British and later, the Revolutionary infantry. My tour guide was deep with knowlege, an evolutionary anthropologist, and, since I was enthralled, she gave me a step-by-step context of the entry in to the American war. She also gave rich history about the treatment of the soldiers, their place within society (as the British Army), the juxtoposition to officers, the diversity of the soliders given England's colonization, with some specifics about George Washington. I appreciated an additional run down about Hessian soldiers and the innoculations efforts of GW (which were 100 percent successful). They have a working tradesman, David, and since he was in he spent some time explaining the crafts of journeymen at the time and the work that they are doing to learn and preserve the crafts and trades of the time (wood work, clothiers, shoemaking, etc). He also spoke to the labor conditions of apprentices of the time and the sources and how-tos that are his references for his materials making.
It is also fascinating that the place was preserved by anti-suffragettes (which honestly, I didn't know existed, but should have known).
With that said, I've always known that Trenton was a lynchpin in the American Revolution; I learned quite a bit and even had some myths and lore put to bed.
The museum encouraged some hands on engagement, as the quarters themselves are mostly stocked with replicas. With that in mind, it would be a treat for families. I will try to make it back for one of the musket demos and hope that their reenactment of the battle of Trenton will go on next year.

We visited here and we had a really great time! The performers stay completely in character and were very informative. We met with a revolutionary Doctor who spoke of how he would car for the soldiers and intentionally expose them to virus to make them immune. We met with a colonial solder in Washington’s army. One of the soldiers outside the barracks made us form and march. He also gave a demonstration with the musket that had a charge to make it go boom! The kids really enjoyed the musket!

The museum should welcome those who decide to visit on the spur of the moment and not essentially discourage them by limiting visitation to those who book in advance. I tried to visit today and was told I need to book in advance. I will NOT even consider attempting a return visit until this restrictive policy is abandoned, pandemic or no pandemic. Masks are still required, which combined with New Jersey's relatively high rate of immunization would seem to negate the reason(s) for limiting visits to those who register in advance.

As of this writing, they are open again. And what a treat. I'm a big Revolutionary War buff and was looking forward to visiting the sites in Trenton where George Washington sprung a surprise on the Hessian troops on Christmas Eve. Alas, the only physical remnant downtown of the Battle of Trenton is right here at the Old Barracks Museum. Even though the fighting was occurring a mile away, here at the barracks the visitor can get a sense of how soldiers during that era bunked down during the winter month. It's fascinating to know the walls inside and outside were the same ones Washington's troops laid eyes on during that pivotal battle. And there's a small museum describing the events of that battle. The tour guides were excellent in explaining each period of the barrack's life. There was a demonstration of the arms used during the war as well as some craftsmen making all sorts of colonial clothing and equipment. You won't regret one minute attending this very well maintained property.

Great museum and tour. Very knowledgeable guides. Soldier , shoe maker and tradesman all dressed in traditional outfits .
Need about 1.5-2 hours.
Beautiful buildings. Great history .
Free parking .
Well worth the trip. Price is about $11 p/p very affordable.

Barracks Museum was informative. Best part was the live Reenactment with the troupes, drummers and musket guns firings.
