Approx 3 miles of trails along the Rio Grande River. Most of the year the river is dry with no water. Trails are FLAT and no shade. Compared to other trails in this area this park is extremely easy and would be user-friendly to most audiences. We pushed a dog stroller through the sand like trails without much difficulty.
Compared to most other parks in this area there is not a lot to see.
The bike trail at La Llorona bike trail supposedly hooks up to the trails in this park. We rode the La Llorona trail but never found where they connected.
Average park. Would recommend others in the area first for better views We were here visiting for a wk+ so had the time to check out many of the parks.

This was a nice walk in the park. It's a lovely area with shade and plenty of vegetation with plants identified. Unfortunately, the information center was still closed out of COVID precautios.

First, its pronounced Mesiya. The park is located on the Rio Grande near NMSU in Las Cruces. Nice Picnic area and trails. You can get a self-guided trail booklet at the Visitors Center, if you luck. Beautiful wildlife , including many birds. Spend a few hours or the day. You won't be disappointed.

Medulla NM was an enjoyable place to stop. If you need to stretch your legs, the park is fine. Not much to see. We had read the the Rio Grande runs past the park but unfortunately not this time of the year! But, even though we saw no water, we saw the river bed and banks so we can sort of say we saw the Rio Grande😀 It was a lovely walk. $5.00 charge.

We went to the park to check it out for a walk, but there was no water in the Rio Grande. Apparently the water only flows spring through fall.

The visitor center here is very informative and staff very friendly. We didn't see any birds but did see lots of animal tracks. Good place to walk if you want a nice level area.

A two star rating probably isn't fair to the park but we had less than a two star experience because we got caught in a heavy rain where everything turned to mud and simply staying upright was difficult. Your experience will likely be better but do beware of the rain. It makes for hazardous, not to mention messy and uncomfortable, conditions.

This lovely ;\place is so near Mesilla that you need to go. The day we visited, the air was warm, with only a light breeze.The drive from Mesilla is through beautiful farmland and makes a nice change from the speed on the Interstate and the comparative bustle of the town. The road is paved most of the way, but finally becomes a dirt track--sort of a preparation for the isolation of the park. When we arrived, we were the only visitors, so we could enjoy the surroundings. Be sure to see the exhibitions in the reception hall, then take a walk down through the park to the river. Late in the afternoon is the best time to spot birds.

its a mile on dirt road to reach visitors center. Information and maps of a few trails are available. Short flat loops. Sandy terrain along Rio Grande. Birds are drawn to the trees and bushes. Will return to explore more.
