There were many seats at the sea and also in the garden besides the promenade.
Walking along the waterfront was a nice activity if you enjoy seeing the life of local people. Special in the Sunday afternoons there were many families strolling around. The beach was very shallow. Many men fished with rods and often they were wandering far out in the sea.
I like to study birds. A lot of people don’t understand that they wouldn’t leave plates of food on a table, when they leave the place. Plenty of little birds lined up waiting and they were happy when they got something to eat.
We met many dogs with owners but also a lot of stray dogs. The dogs seemed to find the terrain very interesting. It was some kind of a meeting point for dogs and even for people. The dogs without any home lived a dangerous life, when they were wandering in the streets near the bus station. In the evening this part of Mahebourg looked like a ghost town. We saw only a few dogs and nearly no people.

We read about this location as a must see attraction but there is not a great deal to see! The waterfront is a promenade type walk and then we carried on walking to see what else we could find but there was very little. There was a market but it just sold food. Do not use the public toilets - you have been warned!

Mahebourg Waterfront isn't a must see in Mauritius, but it is a very historical site. It is the place where the Dutch landed first (and brought the rats and cats that made the Dodo extinct) and called this island Mauritius, it is the place where the French founded the first capital of Mauritius – or Ile de Bourbonnes/Ile de Bonaparte what was the french name and the place where the end of the French occupation began with the battle of Grand Port between the French and the Britons. Even though the French won the battle of Grand Port, with was the only French victory in the Mauritian War, the British fleet occupied Mauritius and became the last colonial force in Mauritius from 1810 til the independence in 1968.

Mahebourg Waterfront in Mahebourg is one of the best historic place in the south eastern part of Mauritius. Walking along the waterfront is one of the best activities to do while enjouying the sights of local people and local fishermen on their daily chores. The main bus station is by the waterfront and that makes if more convenient if travelling by bus to other cities. Local shops are nearby and local markets are just a stone throw away. I spent 5 days in Mahebourg and stayed by the waterfront and it's one of the best itinerary I had in my 23 days in Mauritius.

Se ci si trova in questo tranquillo paesello che è Mahebourg e si è in vena di una passeggiata, magari un giretto su questo lungomare si può anche fare...niente di magnifico ed i furgoncini dei gelati con carillon stile “IT” hanno il loro perché...

La città di per sé non entusiasma. Il waterfront non fa eccezione... Non c'è un gran che e non è neanche ben tenuto. Arrivare sino a qui solo per questo non ne vale assolutamente la pena. Mauritius offre molto di piu' e meglio!
