Short walk to the lighthouse with a great view at the end! Easy, family friendly, dog can be on a leash. Lots of flowers and butterflies painting the way as you walk along the wooden path. Perfect for a brief picnic or take a walk before dinner.

Perfect! Short, easy walk through interesting vegetation to reach the Lighthouse. Enjoy the walk as it's an important part of the experience. Wildflowers and birds, stream and some sand make the short walk feel like a mini getaway. Then you reach the Lighthouse and enjoy the river views. Don't go without checking the tide chart and understanding what it means for your visit. Weekdays you can enjoy the deck around the Lighthouse, weekends it's reserved for Bed and Breakfast guests. This is a great spot for birding, for picnics, or just getting away from daily pressures. Not wheel chair friendly or particularly stroller friends as the path is a mix of boardwalks, sand, and dirt/mud (depending on tide) They have made wonderful improvements recently including much more boardwalk to get you out to the Lighthouse. I didn't get muddy at all a couple hours after high tide. In the past I would have to change shoes coming off the trail.

We were driving north and saw a sign for this attraction and decided to take a needed break. This is a great place to do it. We took the little pleasant hike down to the lighthouse and river. This is a different type of light house than a coastal light but it is very old and interesting. It is also a bed and breakfast.

Nice short walk through a nature preserve to see one of the seven preserved lighthouses on the Hudson River. It was not open when we visited. More information on travel and shipping on the Hudson River would have been appreciated.

What a lovely stroll on a flat, well maintained trail. At every turn there were sweet views, tall grasses, and interesting marshy areas. We went on a late Sunday afternoon. The trail had many others visitors, but everyone was respectful as they passed by. How sweet it was to sit on the bench by the lighthouse itself and gaze at the beautiful Hudson River, or Mahicantuck, the "river that flows both ways".

This isn't the most exciting attraction in the world, but if you are in the area doing other things, it's a lovely half-mile walk through lush wetlands path, and a beautiful spot on the river. The lighthouse is quite interesting, so different from the classic towers since it isn't on the ocean. Worth a visit for sure.

Of course, a lighthouse is on the water, often at a bend or other place of significance. Thus, the view from the Saugerties lighthouse is stunning. It takes 15 minutes or so to walk to the site (level terrain, well-maintained path). A few interpretive panels describe the history of the lighthouse at that point.
One note: the signs note that the two bedrooms are available to rent in the lighthouse. I looked up the details and, although pricey, the accommodation should be outstanding: Imagine going to sleep to the sounds of the river and wildlife, and awakening to the sun rising over the river.

It's a nice walk to then end of the path that leads to the lighthouse. It can be a bit muddy and if it rains heavy it floods over the path. The lighthouse was not open to tour but you can reserve nights to stay there. It's a pretty property and there are places to sit and relax and enjoy the water. You may want to take some bug spray along.

I passed the sign for the Saugerties Lighthouse on my trip up to Catskill, NY and planned a trip when I drove back down to Saugerties.
The path down the lighthouse can be difficult without the right shoes and make sure to go on a sunny day while the sun is shining. That path can be dangerous when it gets dark outside. On a sunny afternoon it is very nice walk. There are all sorts of interesting wildflowers along the route.
The lighthouse itself can use some renovation. The place was closed inside because it serves as a B & B and the lighthouse keepers home. Still the lighthouse looks very majestic on the side of the river. It built in a very different era and you can see its many uses.

Check before you go there. We found it was closed for the season. You cannot even go on the trail to see it from afar, because the gate is closed. I hope they will open it in the spring.

Parking about a half mile away from waterfront. Path to water is clearly marked and is marsh-like. You'll want to stay on the path. Wouldn't recommend for small children or if easy access is important.
