A great mansion tour.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our one hour Classic tour today. Our tour guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable. This mansion has some unique and beautiful furniture, stained glass, sculpted heads on the walls, and lovely grounds to walk around at your leisure. We walked down to the bowling alley building and looked in the windows. We then drove up Rt. 9 to the Horsefeathers restaurant for lunch. If you like to tour old homes, go see this one!

I took the classic tour and it was great. The guide sounded like she really enjoyed what she was talking about. We explored some of the grounds when we were finished and the old bowling alley was really cool.

Interesting tour

We took the very interesting short (one hour) because of limited time. Our guide, Emile, was excellent. Learned a lot about the very rich New Yorkers of the Gilded Age. It is worth spending more time on the longer tour and on the grounds.

The Upstairs/Downstairs Tour explores the top of the five-story tower, the basement, and the laundry room. The Inside/Outside Tour explores the first and second floors of the house and the lower landscape of the property, including the Bowling Alley. Hope to see you soon!

A Great Experience

Visited Lyndhurst with my 80 year old mother today. We both enjoyed this place very much. After parking and checking in we went to the bowling alley which has two lanes. The bowling alley is enclosed in a very cool looking building. It is a bit of a walk from where you park. Getting there not a problem. Coming back involves a hill. We found out after we could have driven down that way and then circled around back to the regular parking area. We booked the Upstairs/Downstairs tour. You get to see a few hidden spots the Classic Tour does not cover. Our tour guide Ed was great. After that we went to see the exhibit across from the Welcome Center. All in all a lovely day. Lots of serenity on the Lyndhurst grounds.

Visited the mansion around the holidays, so beautiful. The tour was very informative. Great to see the mansion is still in great shape. The interior has time period pieces, art and furniture, all original. If you are in Tarrytown don't miss the experience.

Worth the Drive from New Jersey for the Christmas Tour!

My wife and I took the Christmas tour of the mansion with a friend of ours. We booked our tickets weeks in advance and we were glad we did. It was sold out fast. The mansion overlooks the beautiful Hudson River.

The mansion was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was truly a spectacle. Our guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. He really knew the history of the property inside and out. He even told us about recent TV shows that had taped scenes inside the mansion as well as on the property. The history, beauty, and pieces of memorabilia inside the mansion are breathtaking. Great tidbits about the walls painted to make it look like marble but really are wood.

The walking tour lasted one hour. Even so it was winter, the grounds looked magnificent. There was a welcoming center and a gift shop. The signage and directions once you are on the property are excellent and they get you to where you need to be. The price of the tour was well worth it. There are always events at the mansion during the nice weather so I have no doubt we will be back. It was worth the hour drive.

Best Christmas tour ever !

Unreal our experience was really the best Christmas family day trip we all enjoyed our time there ! We have been to Newport RI in Nov to see the mansions decorated for Christmas the houses we grand and beautiful however Lyndhurst Mansion by far the best decorated we have ever seen !!!! with original antiques and the Christmas decor was just exquisite !!!! We took many beautiful family photos ! The staff was so very friendly and knowledgeable !!!someone in every room to discuss the family history and contents of the mansion it was so nicely done. It was worth every penny ! Our family has been many places and this was a very memorable experience. Thank you so much to the society and their efforts can’t wait to visit in spring to tour rest of the mansion ! I highly recommend your family will not be disappointed !

Swing into Tarrytown next time you have to go over the Tappan Zee. See Washington Irving’s home and Lyndhurst. Maybe walk the public path that runs along the Hudson. The mansion, owned lastly but the Jay Gould family,is beautiful and has a fascinating history. Designed inside and out by Alexander Jackson Davis. Of significance, the furnishings are all original to the house and beautiful. The grounds make for a pleasant stroll. No gardens but a bowling house, a playhouse, and a view. Good parking. Make the trip.

Beautiful grounds to enjoy and an interesting tour

Lyndhurst is a beautiful estate with extensive grounds along the Hudson. We enjoyed the tour of the home and then wandered around the property. The docent was good and knowledgeable about the property. The home was decorated seasonally which was a nice touch.

You can get just a grounds pass if you chose. It is included if you get the tour. You can walk along the river and continue outside their property along the riverwalk if you choose. The remains of what was once an extensive greenhouse are an interesting site.

It costs $10 to enter the property, and an additional cost if you want to take a tour. I was short on time and could only check out the exterior of the house, so it was a little disappointing having to pay $10 for the 10 minutes I was there.
