This place gets it. The entire package. From the warm welcome, to the tour of the grounds, to tasting room, to the wine itself, to the personalized thank you note, this is an experience above and beyond the norm. If there is any one winery I would say that you cannot miss, this is the one. From A to Z, the best.

This was the best vineyard and wine tasting experience ever. Our hostess, Gina, shared her passion for wine with us and the biodiverse journey they are taking. From the tour of the vineyards, tasting the grapes from the vines, seeing the cellar, the vats and the production machinery and the chateau …. then the wine tasting! What I loved especially was the extraordinary history and that by the time we tasted the wine, I felt a real understanding for it, the history, the goal of the owners.
Gina was a delight, it was just the most wonderful afternoon. Wine delivery was very easily organised and is already on its way. Super efficient. Thank you Gina for a wonderful day !

The tour was organised by our hotel and boy what a wonderful tour it was. This was not our first tour of a vineyard, but it was by far the most personal and informative. Gina was extremely knowledgeable and passionate, but most of all incredibly friendly and engaging. We could not have asked for a better experience!

Words cannot describe how amazing this winery and vineyard our. Our tour guide Fanny was phenomenal, very informative and a pleasure to learn from. We were very fortunate to get in to visit here and look forward to returning again.

We did a private tour with Fanny and it was incredible. She was so passionate and patient in answering our *many* questions. The property is stunning, and the wine delicious. I was excited to have the opportunity to see a biodynamic winery in action. Highly recommended!

My husband and I visited this lovely renovated modern chateau with a driver. The owners were there that day, and Mrs. Adams spent several minutes with us personally. Tasted both Chateau Fonplegade 2012 & Chateau l’Enclos 2011, and liked both enough to purchase. Owners have storage in CA, so wine ships quickly. Very nice experience.

We had a great personalized tour with Eloi and his colleague (sorry we forgot her name!!).
The property is beautiful and the story behind it is interesting. The American owners purchased it in 2004 and did a great job remodeling it while preserving its history.
The tour was welcoming, personalized, and informative.
And the wine was great! Particularly the 2009 Pomerol (mostly Merlot I think) which had aged nicely.
Definitely worth a visit!

We visited Chateau Fonplegade for our second wine tasting of the day and wow what an amazing place this was. Our host Marion was very knowledgeable and talked us through the whole wine making process. It was a beautiful chateau that has been restored with lovely gardens. The wine tasting was perfect and we were served cheese, nuts and a lovely Merlot jam to go with the wines. Highly recommend a visit here.

My husband and I have been on many many wine tours. After a while they all sound the same so when he told me we were going to Fonplegade for a tour I braced myself for another boring talk. Boy was I wrong! We had an unbelievable time. Jerome, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, interesting and really paid attention to what we were wanting to know instead of forcing information on us that we had no interest in. We had a private tour of the vineyards with him and we enjoyed our time so much there we didn’t want to leave. We are still talking about it several days later. The owners of the estate have gone to great lengths to restore this château to its former glory, and I imagine it looks even better than it did when it was first built. They have paid attention to every single detail and you can tell. They also served a beautiful cheese pairing with aged 18 month Comte and a sheepsmilk- the perfect cheeses to go with the wine they served.
We were stunned by the beauty and the levels of service and honor they gave to the property.

We went to visit Chateau Fonplegade on a bright sunny, windy morning and beginning with the drive up and the friendly smile of the young lady who let us in, the visit was pure joy. We were received with warmth and a hospitality that changed our perspective of what chateau visits and wine tastings need to be. Denise Adams, the owner, and Eloi Jacob, the director, made this visit unforgettable thanks to the details they shared with us - and we were not negociants, big name wine journalists, or a camera crew. Just some locals with family visiting from the US. Eloi took us for a wonderful tour of the transformed estate where biodynamism is the name of the game. He explained the reasons behind planting cereales and fava beans between the rows, and the story of the name "Fonplegade". My husband, a chemist had plenty of questions that Eloi answered with patience and enthusiasm. Mrs. Adams shared the charming story of how her husband and she came to acquire the chateau. Love stories are lovely, and their love affair with St. Emilion was inspiring. We all fall in love with St. Emilion, the village or perhaps the wine, but neither leaves you unmoved. The views, the renovation of the chateau, and the wing added after seeing a vintage postcard that showed the original chateau Fonplegade with 2 towers all have followed an organic process of thoughtful growth. The chateau raises its own chickens -who produce multi-coloured eggs, and have their first batch of bees. Given the bee crisis, this is a great idea and one hopes that all farmers and viticulteurs do the same. Team Adams may have inspired their neighbours to consider biodynamism perhaps? The orangerie in its new avatar is a stunning backdrop for events, with a grand piano and views across the vines. In the transformation of this chateau, the care, patience, research and love of the owners and their director is evident. Their boutique is host to California creations and of course, local ones. Wine tastings are only as memorable as their creators. Try the wine in this beautiful, luminous setting and if you haven't fallen in love with St. Emilion yet,you will. And this love affair will last forever.
