Storks on a cute chapel in a lovely park

Quite near the main entrance to the wonderful city park Parque-Alameda de Cervantes, on the right, is this tiny chapel or hermitage.

The chapel was built mainly in the 16th century (some later additions in the 18th), by order of the Condes de Gómara, whose magnificent palace is about 10 minutes walk away from here. The Condes de Gómara also commissioned the image of Christ, also dating back to the 16th century, the image of Maria de la Soledad, which gives its name to the chapel, being commissioned by the Hermandad de la Vera+Cruz.

The most striking feature of the chapel for most of the year, is however, not religious. It is a favourite spot for storks to build their nests on the roof.
