This is a great place to meander around relatively easy trails in the woods and around a lake. It has a boardwalk that is wheelchair accessible. It's a good (free!) place for a short hike near downtown Highlands.

So many great outdoor activities here in H-Town. Understanding the indigenous species is a must if you are going to visit the Plateau. Please understand we keep Highlands and the surrounding areas clean and free of rubbish and trash.

Wanted to enjoy visiting the Nature Center here in Highlands, but could not. The maps were terribly confusing, the bear encounter warning signs were disturbing and the pitiful parking made the entire adventure not great. Pretty disappointing

The walking paths covered a variety of terrain and plants. There are boardwalks and pollinator gardens. Very peaceful. Definitely a must see.

The station itself is a nice building with geology displays, a small gift shop and bathrooms. The basic trail is a delight: mostly flat, well maintained, with lovely views of the lake and water lilies. For those so inclined, trees and plants are also identified, and there's a small, butterfly garden near the front, filled with flowers. Walking the main trail and side jaunts takes a delightful hour.

What a treasure right in the center of Highlands. The easy trails are great for reviewing your wildflower knowledge. Well kept trails, boardwalks that take you to bogs, a small lake, what more could you want for a great morning walk. The construction of the boardwalk is fascinating. The boards are cut in a special way so that the boardwalk has nice gentle curves like a path, not a pier. A must for anyone in the Highlands area.

what a gem this sweet little place is. perfect for the first day of "hiking" as you get acquainted with the area. Cute little trails, lily pads and trees. It feels like a rain forest in there on a summer day.

We had no idea what to expect. After finishing our hike to Sunset Rock (directly across the street), we found ourselves at the Nature Center and Station for a couple of hours. There are beautiful trails that will not disappoint. A pond full of Lillies, snapping turtles and a few fish. There are lots of flowering vegetation, attracting many species of butterflies and bees. We can't wait to be back to Highlands for another visit!

Though not large, this place is so neat! Combine it with a walk up to Sunrise/Sunset Rock. The exhibitions inside, which cover local wildlife, archaeology/indigenous history, geology and more are surprisingly awesome and the botanical garden trails that branch off in different directions behind the center make for a pleasant and easy stroll. Total gem.

We stumbled upon the nature center when we went to park and hike at Sunset Rock. The kids loved exploring this local gem. Parking has a big Dropoff so even our SUV scrapped - park accordingly.

It depends on the weather that year, but there are several varieties that bloom throughout May, June and July. If you go during those months you are sure to see some!
