There are some great hands-on exhibits, cutaway trains, and lots of educational mechanical displays. Plus lots more for the littler kids. Everything was commentated specifically for kids and there was excessive multimedia so you hear several going at once. I was excited when I saw the sign pointing to the workshops and collection but I don't know why they even let you into that foyer because the rest of the workshop and collection is closed off and you can't see any of it. By comparison, Thirlmere has five times as many trains on display and most have the interior accessible.

The whole package is fantastic,gives a great insight into our ancestors hard life of creating a railway system for us ,
Using the actual buildings and location to look into our past is superb.
All ages and all walks of life will love the place .

Spent over two and a half hours here. Very well presented and very interesting. Well worth the visit. Will return with our grandchildren.

Great for family. You could easily spend half day there and wrap up your trip at Queens park. I know it’s a museum but still hope it becomes more like a rail theme park.

I did a day trip by train to Ipswich to visit The Workshops Rail Museum. A short 2km walk from the train station and a brief checkin at the office before being my tour. I did ask for a map to follow but nothing is available to guide you around the complex.
Plenty of large and small exhibits but disappointed that no carriages or trains were open to view. This may be because of COVID-19 restrictions but it would have been nice to walk through the Dining Car.
Completed the complex including walking up the slope to the Power Station in 45 minutes.

I loved it it was great for my grandpa and he loved it. He's 103 so it was a special treat! Loved the rails.

It was a great experience especially for young kids, I was pleasantly surprised! Would highly recommend eating lunch before going to maximize your session time and getting all the activities done!

Great rail museum with lots of interactive features to keep the kids occupied. It's ideal for all ages with plenty of memorabilia however some displays are currently not open due to Covid-19.

With wife’s grandparents closely involved in the 1880s development of the queensland railways a visit was a must.it did not disappoint even though covid restricted the areas we could visit.the complex itself is massive and only a small but vital part of the museum was open.a highlight was the 1860s steam engine and van one which the grandparents could well have travelled on.

Unfortunately due to covid 19 most displays weren't open. I enjoyed what I saw and there was no charge. Could not access power house and workshops.
