Excellent displays supported by knowledgeable and friendly people.
The aircraft are well displayed and there is plenty of room to roam around them.
You need to be aware it is located within an active Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base and processes must be followed, but the RAAF personnel and the civvies in the museum make it easy to follow the processes.
Thanks to Renee for an enjoyable and informative visit.
NB: I was accompanied by an elderly mother who was well looked after by all.

This was a great experience. The tour guides (volunteers) were lovely and has great knowledge. You also had great views of the RAAF Runway. There is also a gift shop.

A great place to visit if you love your aircraft. 4 hangars of planes and helicopters. The volunteers that show you around definitely know their stuff. Will take a couple of hours to get around.

While visiting a friend, she told me that on the last Sunday of each month, there is an open day for the Centre - free! I just had to see it as I had served with the RAAF in Amberley.
The base has changed so much since I lived there - much larger, many new buildings and the noisy FIII aircraft no longer in service frightening the local koala population. But there is an FIII at the front gate and another at the Centre. They are huge.
Getting into the Centre via the back gate was a bit more circuitous than I thought necessary, however, it did give me a chance to view what had been my home for a short while.
Ample parking was available but a few hundred metres from the Centre, although it appeared special arrangements can be made for those with mobility issues.
A number of RAAF Reserve and volunteers is available at the Centre to guide and answer questions about the impressive collection of militaria. Kids seemed to be having fun hopping into a few aircraft models with which they could play, pulling switches and a helicopter collective no doubt imaging themselves flying over their houses or schools.
It brought back many memories for me and reminded me that I was once young.
If you are in the area, do visit, but my recommendation is that you download the Public Open Day Application available from the site and complete it before you get there (unless you're good at writing while you drive). You need photo ID for those over 16 and dash cams aren't permitted to operate in the area.

We drove up from Tweed Heads on Sunday and had trouble finding the entrance but once inside were very impressed with the displays, could easily have spent more time there. The volunteers were very friendly and informative and obviously enjoyed chatting to us. Great to see a complete F-111 and the old Sabre jet plus Reg Ansett's first plane. Will be back.

We enjoyed the visit where we could see a range of air craft for free (donation opportunity available). Although the display is not huge it included an interesting range of items. It is on the RAAF base so expect some security precessing. Drive to the location from the Leichhardt side or you won't get in. Very well done!

Was worried when we arrived as there was a huge line of cars waiting to get in the gates however don't be discouraged by this as the line went super quick and you get to sit in your aircon car while you wait!
100% worth the wait in line! Exhibits are incredible, atmosphere is awesome and being able to see an active air base and all it's history is just amazing!!
Family friendly and a great organisation.
Make sure you print off the entry form and fill it in before heading there and best of all..... It is FREE entry!!! Donations are appreciated so dig deep people to ensure this stays open!!

Very interesting place with some unique displays. Kevin the guide was brilliant. Knew his stuff and was very knowledgeable. A top place to spend a couple of hours.

Very interesting but I guess you need the interest in the first place! Great collection of Aussie aviation history.
Remember this is not a commercial fun park type tourist attraction: And that is its charm!
Staffed by passionate enthusiastic 'old and the bold': Passionate genuine people who love and respect the history they preserve. I love it!
Great for the military historian or mechanical type who love getting up close and personal with some old technology!
Excellent wet Sunday outing. Probably boring for the kids unless they love planes and stuff!

I have to say that it was a bluddy hot day at Amberley Air Base and with the humidity close to oppressive It’s hard to stay positive and focused.
There are 4 hangars (ovens) housing the displays which seem pretty extensive and interesting enough, but it’s all very static and easy to glide past. A few small scattered tv monitors play videos trying to tempt you to stop but the audio cannot be herd over the background noise. On a cooler day I am sure someone with an interest in military aviation could wile away a few hours. It’s such a shame none of the exhibits move or start or simulates any type of action. But it is free admission so it’s all pretty low key. Getting onto the base requires you to get military clearance so check the procedures and opening times before heading out to Amberley.
