His landing is controversial these days, it's not celebrated like it once was. But Cook has to be admired for the fact that he left the safety of his home and explored unknown territory... unknown for him. Growing up humbly on a farm in England he had an inquisitive mind as a child... I don't think his parents could ever know what their son was about to achieve and what he would be remembered for... not always kindly.
Captain Cook's Landing Place is a heritage-listed site at Seventeen Seventy, Gladstone Region, Queensland, Australia. It is so named because Captain Cook landed there on 24 May 1770. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 March 1996.

The Cook Lookout was where James Cook landed on 24 May 1770 and the monument was erected in 1926. It is basically a mound of stones and a good photo stop.

Definitely worth a quick look to see the Cook monument, when he was still a Lieutenant and not a Captain. A nice bit of history and some great views

The cairn marks the spot where James Cook blazed a tree in 1770. The tree was destroyed about 40 years later, and the cairn built in its place. The interpretation boards are interesting and well done.

Excellent beach view, so peaceful place.there is some history as well, very informative.overall lovely small town with natural beauty. Must recommend.

It is nice to see this place to learn the hisotry. THere is a walking track starting from this point as well.

There is a good waterside walk to the monument or you can drive and park. The monument pays tribute to Captain Cook and his landing in the area

This is a plain but nice memorial to the man we can thank for claiming Australia for Britain instead of the French or Dutch.
