Whenever we are in area of North Carolina, we always make a stop at the Soap Shed. In addition to the 100 or so soap bars in baskets along the walls, there are nearly as many in the back room. If there is a scent you want to get that isn't on display, ask. There probably isn't room in the showroom. Check out the website for ideas before you go, so you are not overwhelmed. You can also call ahead to find out if they are making soap in the shed out back, and if not they will gladly explain the process on the wonderful porch.

Hard to find. Looks like the road isn't really going anywhere. As an attraction the Shop is in the front of house. Actual shop is very small, but assortment of soaps is huge. The soaps each claim to have a unique function or smell. The owner does explain everything.

You have to trust your GPS, and then the signs on the narrow gravel road, but you'll find it.
The owners were there, busy packing shipments. They must do *much* more on line than in store. They're willing to discuss the process of making soap, the ingredients, and their recommendations. After a little discussion, we learned which soaps my spouse can use - he's allergic to coconut, and most of the soaps are made with coconut oil. We were looking at the mosquito repellent soap, but it does have coconut. Instead, we were able to get a small bottle of the essential oil mixture used in the soap, so spouse can use that instead.
My son has a rash that doctors can't figure out - it isn't allergies. We picked up a soap that seems to help, though it's designed for rosacea. And we bought a few gift packs for friends with whom we always try to exhange handmade and/or local gifts.
Having visited once, I'm not certain I'd go again - but I certainly would order again.
My only warning is if strong scents bother you, you might not want to spend much time inside. They do have a remedy, and an offer of the porch, if the fragrances overwhelm you.

If you appreciate hand crafted soaps this is a must-visit shop. After parking our M/C, my wife and I were graciously greeted by the owner Tim and welcomed into the storefront. As this was our first visit, Tim patiently explained the major differences for his products based upon ingredients and skin benefits. We are very pleased with our selections and expect to order additional soaps online.

Very please with the soaps and the service. I was up here during vacation and went to check it out and it was amazing. Tons of different soaps to choose from, coffee grounds to clear your sinuses, and the ability to wrap the soap yourself. The extra items they had like baskets and body butters and packages really brought the place together. I would definitely come back. I’m still using their soaps to this day.

I am so disappointed with the soap shack. I read the reviews & thought this would be a great place to visit. According to Trip Advisor and a call to the company both informed us that the shop was opened - Trip Advisor actually listed it as opened. You can imagine our disappointment when we took the time to drive there to discover the CLOSED sign. I doubt I'll try to return to the Soap Shack on my next visit through NC. Communicatuon is so important & I feel this shop failed to communicate their hours with Trip Advisor.

Yes, it's true. Our retail shop is closed from November 1st through April 30th. Then we are open six days a week, Monday through Saturday 10-5, from May 1st through October 31st, which is how we've done it for 20 years now. We followg the usual seasonal schedule of most tourist-oriented businesses in our part of the Blue Ridge because so few visitors come through during the Winter months. We're certainly sorry we missed meeting you. But appointments are always welcomed during our Winter season, as we state on our website, phone messages, brochures and even the sign on the front door. Web order continues year round.

I though I would be bored accompanying my wife and daughter to this place, after all all they sell are soaps. Well was I wrong, it was the most interesting thing we did that day. The owner was so informative and so interesting that I was truly glad I went, we ended up buying 18 hand made all natural soaps and most likely we will order additional ones on line. Great place, you will not be sorry!

I decided to visit the Soap Shed after passing the sign for it over the past 5 years while visiting the mountains...I picked the perfect day and time...Around 2 pm and spent at least an hour there...Tim the owner led me through and explained the difference between the coconut base, goat's milk base and shea butter base...He also explained pricing and explained to me which soaps would be best for dry skin...I easily spent more money than I intended but most of these quality soaps will be Christmas and birthday gifts...A very pleasant and relaxing visit...I wasn't overwhelmed by the scents...They use Essential oils in many of their soaps. They also have a mail order business.

Tried to visit the soap shed but nobody home. Not easy to pick out the building, as signage poor, so maybe we were in the wrong place? If there were a sign by the highway to indicate open or closed, that might have helped. If days and hours were posted...maybe??? Any info on this would be helpful so I don't drive that rough road again for nothing.

There is usually a sign on Highway 226 that is displayed when the Soap Shed is open.
