We appreciated that there are three separate price points to buy tickets to tour Old Salem. We were only interested in the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at $10 each. The local Moravian exhibit downstairs did not exist when I visited three years ago and is an excellent addition.
We were disappointed to see two areas of the museum are closed off behind glass doors and are only available on private tours conducted at 11am and 2pm … for an additional $20 per person. However, we were told everything seen on those tours can be viewed on-line …. now I just need to make to time to visit the website.

It is a very nice little museum. The personell were helpful. Down stairs I especially enjoyed the southeastn pottery, silver and furniture.

The Horton Museum is the first exhibition building after crossing through the covered bridge from the Visitor’s Center into the Old Salem area. Really two museums in one. There are two public galleries that are included in the Old Salem admission ticket. Additional galleries are offered by guided tour at an additional cost. We enjoyed the public galleries, but did not take the guided tour.

The Frank L. Horton Museum Center houses two self guided galleries and Mesda (that is now a paid tour that is not included in the Old Salem ticket). The galleries you can visit are the Carolyn and Mike McNamara Southern Masterworks Gallery and the William C. and Susan S. Mariner Southern Ceramics Gallery. These are both worth a visit and one of the galleries just opened.
I enjoyed seeing the work created by the craftspeople from the pottery to the knitting to the furniture. It was well worth a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to MESDA ... an excellent collection of furniture, pottery and silver from the Southeast. We also loved the Moravian collection; seeing this adds to the Salem experience. This is well worth the time and the excellent staff were available for any questions. I would like to take the guided tour next time!

Just loved this little museum of mostly Moravian artwork and period furniture. Who knew such beautiful silver, pottery, stitchery and decorative arts were being created in this area of the country during this time period.

The museum center is the first stop, and a must see, on the Old Museum tour. The historic articles are amazing, and listening to the docents is incredibly informative. Lovely artwork, artifacts, and interesting history abounds.

$15 for adults. FYI, most of the attractions you find on Trip Advisor have a link to the web site. You may have to look around a bit , but the links work well. I am not allowed to post a link, but all I did was find the website on Trip Advisor, click on it and go to the home page of this museum, then look around on that page for ticket price.
