Muy bonito, vale la pena hacer el tour de las tortugas. No contratar los tour que te venden en la calle al principio, ni estacionar en los parking de la entrada y caminar, no vale la pena. Hay un parking pegado a la entrada de la playa que sale 100 pesos mex. Y en la playa misma hay empresas mas serias que te venden el mismo snorkel al mismo precio y hasta mas barato. Los tours salen cada una hora comenzando a las 10 de la mañana.

We swam with a Spotted Eagle Ray, many sea turtles and thousands of colourful fish - right in front of our resort. No need to pay for a snorkelling trip - just walk in the water.
Beaches are public in Mexico, so everyone is walking by. This just adds to the charm and scenery.
Winter 23 was a bad one for seaweed. Staff worked 12+ hour days just cleaning up the seaweed. They were efficient and very hard working so we could enjoy the beach.

A praia é pública, você não precisa pagar nada para entrar, não se deixe enganar. Há estacionamentos desde o início do caminho para a praia, mas se você seguir em frente e entrar pelo hotel, basta consumir algo no restaurante deles ou alugar a barraca de praia lá e não precisará pagar para estacionar (os preços do restaurante são um pouco caros mas acaba compensando). A praia estava com sargaço na beira mas o mar estava muito bom. Eles restringem uma boa área do mar para o passeio para ver as tartarugas e ficam tentando te fazer comprar o pacote, mas não é necessário. Leve seu snorkel e mergulhe por conta própria nos arredores das boias que limitam essa área (andando mais para o centro da baía). Nós fizemos isso e deu certo, vimos várias tartarugas e arraias e não precisamos pegar o passeio!

Incroyable. Certes il faut payer le parking et l'entrée à la plage. En arrivant tous les guides vous tombent dessus et vous interdisent de dépasser la ligne de bouées.
Nous sommes allés plus loin sur la droite et là plus personne pour nous empêcher de dépasser la ligne de bouées et là magique... 1,2,3,4,5 tortues que nous avons pu observer que nous 4 et non au milieu de ces groupes emmenés par les guides. Je ne sais pas si nous avons eu de la chance ou si c'est habituel mais en tout cas cette rencontre était magique 🤩

This is simply an awful place and a perfect example of tourism greed spoiling a beautiful location. Akumal Beach proclaims to be a marine reserve. It is a pretty place with white sand beaches, but it is an absolute zoo of uncontrolled crowds of people. I wish it felt as though charging an entrance fee and having “guided” tours to see the turtles was doing something positive to preserve nature and sea life, but it is a pure hustle from the moment you drive in. You will be met by surly paid parking lot staff. You will be hounded by very aggressive “tour guides” who are trying to find dupes to charge an exorbitant price to “see the turtles”. We were given crazy varying prices for the same exact “experience”. Most of the free swimming is in a very crowded roped off area, while the “guided tours” give some hope of seeing reef and sea life. We ended up settling on a guide who charged us $25USD each (for 4 adults). We are experienced snorkelers and divers who love nature, turtles and the water. We were given the mandatory life vests (to keep you from touching bottom and potentially damaging fragile coral) and guided out into the water. This place is so trampled by tourists, that we all felt sick upon returning to shore. We did see turtles, but felt like the throngs of people are doing nothing but disturbing the few turtles that are brave enough to want to spend their time surrounded by kicking legs and much too close human faces. The fish have gotten the message and moved on. What’s left of the coral is dead, the water is murky and the experience is short (thankfully, get us out of here), we were left with no good memories of doing anything but getting scammed. There are beautiful places to snorkel and see corals and marine life living as it should, it’s not here. Come here, see the beach, go for a swim, have lunch. Skip traumatizing the turtles, I sure wish we would have. We left feeling depressed that we participated in any of this.

They have made a beautiful place into a commercialized dump! You get harassed by people trying to scam you for money… even though it’s a public beach ( except the federal reserve part, which in my opinion nobody should be allowed to enter) you can see turtles and fish outside of it. Aside from the Mexicans trying to intimidate you into giving them money the shear amount of people and hypocrites ( I mean the Mexicans ripping around in there own boats) saving the environment is disgusting and disappointing. Don’t waste your money here. One because it’s not worth it and two because it’s a PUBLIC BEACH!!!! Your not supposed to pay money!!!

I cannot say much about the beach, since it was a quick stop on the tour to swim with the turtles. The beach was packed, and countless people were swimming around. Even though it was off season, we did get to see a couple of turtles in the water.
It is mandatory to hire a local tour to swim with the sea turtles. They can be hired at the dive center.

Hi, I haven't been to Akumal in many years due to the invasion of the sargassum (seaweed). Have things gotten better, or is the beach still invaded by the sargassum? Also, in the most recent reviews, it sounds like Akumal has been invaded by sellers (selling tourist stuff). Is this right? Wondering if this is still a good place to visit for a month or so.

hello can you just swim on the sea and hire snorkel stuff and sea turtles on your own rather than paying for a tour to do it?

Yes you can but the area is limited and the price is fairly cheap to rent and have a guide. Personally, I believe in supporting the locals and maximizing my time and effort. I felt it was well worth it and we hired people twice - once at Akumal beach and a second time in Tulum and they took us on a boat out to a spot where the underwater wildlife was fantastic. It was worth it!

Bonjour! J'ai du mal à comprendre si l'accès à la plage d'akumal est payant ou non... C'est le cas? La dernière fois que je suis allée, on s'est fait dire qu'il fallait payer pour nager avec les tortues et nous sommes allés plus loin, sans problème. C'est encore possible? Merci! :-)

L’accès est payant. Pour nager avec les tortues c’est quasiment impossible d’y aller seul. Des personnes en kayaks surveillent une ligne au delà de laquelle nages les tortues.

Personnellement nous avons payé pour une excusrsion privée partant d’un site près de Tulum
On a vu plein de tortues et on pouvait presque leur toucher

Bonjour, ci-après mon commentaire TripAdvisor, suite à notre visite lors des dernières vacances de la Toussaint.
« Lorsque vous venez de la 307, ne vous arrêtez pas à chaque boulet qui, le long du chemin, veut vous vendre très très cher l'accès à la plage et la pseudo visite guidée... Laissez les parler dans toutes les langues dont ils connaissent quelques mots et continuez d'avancer.
Une fois arrivé à l'entrée de la plage 5 US$ ou 100 pesos par personne pour l'accès, la douche, les toilettes et la consigne.
Une fois rentré, idem, de nombreux boulets "hola, snorkeling, tortuga", blablabla...
Continuez après les bateaux et poser votre serviette à l'ombre d'un cocotier sinon la encore il fait payer (450 pesos par personne juste pour l'ombre d'un parasol sans transat ni rien... Sans rire ?).
Une petite bière au Lol-ha et observez là où vous pourrez aller tranquillement.
Après une première baignade en face de l'hôtel Secrets, sans succès pour les tortues mais une fois les bouées passées, des coraux et poissons en pagaille, nous sommes allés là où sortent les bateaux, vous y allez tranquillement sur la droite (dos à la mer) et vous passez les bouées en douceur et là, si vous avez, comme nous en avons eu, de la chance vous verrez barracuda, raie et tortues ! Le top pour zéro euros ! »

looking for updated clarification of accessing akumal beach. I would like to bring my family group to see akumal, the village as well as the beach, after lunching elsewhere. we do not want to swim/snorkel, just walk the beach a bit and look at the activity. don't want to sit at a restaurant. I have read about "fenced off " and "entrance fees" with posts saying beaches are free-don't pay. don't want to have a hassel………………..can we walk onto the beach or not? we will have a hired driver--do you pay for parking or not? I always love akumal but sounds like restrictions/hassels may be keeping persons away

Residents of the hotels on Akumal bay have free access to the beach. If you are nine resident there is a small charge per person to enter through the turnstiles. It is worth it.
