Interesting place to visit. Everyone on site was welcoming. It was a new experience for me joining the 15 minute meditation in the temple. Excellent and reasonably priced cafe with interesting shop. Lovely site with access to walks for those who wished.

This is the most peaceful and refreshing place we have ever visited. Beautiful grounds with a walk down to Bardsea beach. We sat in the gardens on a beautiful sunny day and had coffees and the best blackcurrant flapjacks we have ever eaten. Afterwards we wandered down to the temple itself and I sat inside for a few minutes to feel the utter peace and quiet. Felt, somehow, fresher and cleansed when I came out. They do 15 min trial meditation sessions there and also retreats. Wonderful place and well worth a visit.

I go here to walk, meditate and use the cafe. Lovely surroundings. The cafe is run by volunteers who tend to be lovely.
Wish their were more vegan options. They used to supply Ripe cakes which were amazing but now their cakes are too sweet and rarely anything other than flapjack. Vegans like variety too without causing harm to cows. Would be amazing if they took a leaf from Chester’s book and went all out vegan. Go on. What harm can come if it?
Occasionally go for the meditations too but wish they didn’t need to plug the books for sale and cafe at the end as feels not quite in keeping. Chances are people will visit or purchase unprompted ?
That said … relish my visits to the woods and priory.

Four of us visited on a trip to the Lakes and a really lovely, calming experience. We sat in on the free 15 minute meditation and came away feeling relaxed and calm. A lovely tranquil sanctuary, thank you all.

I visited this Temple with my Thai wife who herself is a devout Buddhist. We were expecting to be able to pray to Buddha and make Merit in our own time just like they do in a proper Temple in Thailand. Unfortunately this wasn't the case.
We arrived at 11am as the website suggests but we had to wait a full hour before we could enter because there was a big class of meditation going on. Eventually we could go in after the class exited but were told there would be another meditation class starting in about 15 mins. So we only had 15 minutes to look around the Temple and say our prayers and make Merit to Buddha before others were arriving. This really wasn't long enough particularly as we had made a long special journey to get here.
The short meditation session was interesting.
As for the Priory and adjacent gardens - they were very nice to walk in the sunshine on that particular day.
We feel that this place is really mainly geared around meditation in all its forms -80%? rather than being able to go into the Temple and pray your thoughts to Buddha in a personal and relaxed manner -much as you might do in an English Church. -20% ?
I suppose on reflection we would have preferred it to be more like the latter.
There is a cafe on site as well as a gift shop so it is quite commercialised as well.

This year was very special at the Summer Festival Manjushri because it was celebrating the 25thAnniversery of the opening of the first Kadampa Buddhist Temple by our late Spiritual Father Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
Every one whom attending the festival was given a limited Edition booklet describing the Opening of the temple.
Our Spiritual Father Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche explained that this temple was not an ordinary building. It has many special characteristics which indicates it's a Holy Temple
The entire Temple is based around Buddhism especially Kadampa Buddhism.
As an example there are 4 door ways . When ever we enter any of these doorways, we should think or imagine " I am now entering the door to Liberation and Enlightenment '
This will create a special imprint or potential, or Karma in our mind for inner peace in the future.
The Temple signifies the entire stages of the path to Enlightenment.
When people visit this holy temple they feel at peace.
Our late Spiritual Father ended a talk about the temple in 1997 by saying," Many people here have worked very hard to build this temple and many people helped financially. In this way we have created a vast collection of positive energy for great conditions in the future. We should dedicate al l this positive energy or merit to the happiness of all living beings with out exception and for peace and harmony through out the world '
When people visit the festival for the first time they are very surprised to find everyone smiling .
No contractors are brought in to the festival everything is carried out by people at the festival such as cleaning, cooking etc.
Every one there practices Buddha Teachings and they understand about Karma correctly, therefore there is no non virtuous actions performed by anyone.
This is just a tiny insight into what goes on at these festivals. If you want to know more then you need to Google New Kadampa Tradition Meditation Activities.
This is a Spiritual Holiday for people whom need peace and love in their lives.
If everyone cherished each otherin this world would be a great place to live.

Was expecting a calm, serene afternoon here. I guess my expectations were too high. It felt more like a Childrens playground with the amount of children running around, a noisy toddler in the meditation session and generally a frantic atmosphere full of noise. Spoke to a Buddhist nun enquiring about a guided tour which had been advertised online and she said it was taking place the same time as the meditation. Turns out it was after it and I missed it, saw the group too late. Customer service in the shop left a lot to be desired. I shall stick to the ambience of temples in Asia, where incense floats through the air as does calmness and serenity, what you’d expect at a temple.

There are double, twin and single ensuite and standard rooms with bedding and towels provided.
You only need a sleeping bag and towel if you stay in a dorm

Hi Can you pay to stay at the centre
Hello Desles,
Thank you for your message and yes you are able to stay at the centre as a guest or as a volunteer. We have various events throughout the year to which you can attend and book online as a guest.
Our rooms are normally reserved for these events during the weekend, so outside of these times you'll need to contact our reception directly with the contact details on our website.
We currently won't have any room availability until September and we're still working on our booking links for the following Sept '19-Aug '20 year.
We hope this helps with your query and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind Regards,
MKMC Reception
Hi, if I wish to start a career in meditation that's the right place to go?

I'm not sure what a "career" in meditation entails, but this is certainly a place you would find peace and people willing to guide you in a short meditation.
Yes some people have come to live and work here after finding peace and a new purpose in life.
Why not visit and see for yourself?
