Houdini’s Last Escape
We really wanted to love this game and for the most part we did. But broken elements really did spoil what was a really good game.
Start with the positives
Great theme!
Fantastic beginning to the room!
Interactive puzzles!
All things which tick the box for a good room!
Unfortunately we had 3 things in the room ‘go wrong’ though which really put a dampener on the room. One was broken before we went in we found, while 2 just didn’t work after we’d done the right things (we found out in the debrief), one of which our games master admitted he wasn’t sure why it finally worked.
Although we escaped we left feeling like we hadn’t and were a little deflated which is an odd feeling from a successful escape.
The room is an older one however these things would be so easy to fix with just a little funding to make this room great again. Particularly as the issues aren’t super high tech problems.
With these things fixed, we’d only easily given a 5 star review as the room has some really good features and puzzles.

Fun and challenging. The host (Katrina or some name beginning with a K) was very good, friendly and helpful and made the experience even better. I want to go back and try the other room soon.

This was brilliant and well thought out. Didn’t escape but so close. Would recommend to anyone, first timers or experienced escape roomers.

Great place. Not obvious as inside a hotel but we did houdinis and only just escaped! Recommended and you can debrief in the bar after!

A great experience for 1 first timer and 2 who had experienced escape rooms before. Jen was fantastic in settling nerves and explained what we needed to do. Her acting was fantastic and made us chuckle and gave brilliant advice when close to cracking a code. Highly recommend

Fabulous entertainment
Fantastic host Jen, very enthusiastic and entertaining. The escape room was great fun and well set up by the host. We managed to escape with about 3 minutes to spare

Escape rooms with broken tech or broken props are unacceptable, especially when a company prides themselves on “immersion”.
We played both games back to back and they both had glitches.
USS Redemption was riddled with ambiguity and broken tech. No flow to the game and so many broken elements.
Not only that, there is no way to contact the company. The website Terms and conditions states that contact details are in paragraph 4, however they are not.
Possibly some of the worst games we’ve played out of over 100

Jen hosted us on our escape day. We did both games one after the other and enjoyed both!
Jen was a great host, enthusiastic, funny and ready to offer hints when we needed them.
We started off with USS redemption. A tricky customer, but really immersive with lots of variety in puzzles. We got out with 3 SECONDS to spare… oooof!
We ended the session with Houdinis last secret. Why a fun little room!! There were a couple of glitches during game play (for once not our fault!) but we just got on with it and got out pretty quickly. The only downside for us was that there weren’t more puzzles in the room. We wanted our moneys worth and this was definitely the easier of the two games!
Good fun, wish they had more as would 100% go back!

USS Redemption Escape Room:
The best bit for me was each time we solved the clues that got us through to each room.
The clues are really varied and make you think 'outside the box'. Each room replicates different parts of a spaceship and adds to the fun.
We were racing at the end and 'escaped' with a nail-biting 15 seconds to spare!
Thank you Lee for being a lovely Games Master (C/o Yew Lodge Hotel, Kegworth venue).
We've already done the Houdini escape room and are looking forward to a third 'escape' soon.
