easy spot to pull over om main road and look at the gorge. Did not do the walk as out of time but sure it would be tiring

I'm reviewing these 2 together as Crawford Lookout (if you want to call it a lookout), is a gap in the trees looking down on the river on the main road. Sure stop and look if you're passing, will take you about 30 seconds. But I wouldn't go out of my way to see either.
Then, to your left are the stairs that go down to the Johnson river lookout and the river itself. I did the walk around 8am in basic sand shoes, the track was wet, sloshy in places and I would definitely recommend wearing shoes with good grip. In saying this, on my way back up, I passed 3 adults and 1 child all doing it in thongs.
A man walked part of the way with me and he continued on down the stairs to the river to go fishing. I went straight ahead to the semi average lookout. (a grassed area that overlooks part of the river. However I did like this view of the river better than the Mamu Skywalk tower. The track is rocky, lots of wet leaves ( see pic) and lots of tree roots sticking up, so watch your step. It took me about 45 minutes to go down, slowly and 30 minutes to come up. From memory i think there is about 70ish steps along the way.

Crawford's Lookout is an easy pull-off from Palmerston Hwy, just near the Namu Tropical Skywalk.
You can enjoy the quick narrow view to the river, or venture off down the path for 1.7km to the North Johnstone River Lookout if adventurous, a 4km return trip suggested as 1.5 - 2 hours return
