Relatively easy hour (I am a quick walker) walk for people use to some exercise. The last 50 meters down to the falls was pretty hairy. I was lucky and just two others there who had taken their photos and sitting off to the side. I got to move around and take some photos from some different spots. Very easily could come to grief. Be very careful. I passed so many people on the way in when I was leaving. I left when there were 6 of us, just too crowded for such a small space.

I've been there twice and it is really worth the effort. The round trip is about 11 km walk but worth it. It is always nice and cool at the end and the view is AMAZING! The walk itself is beautiful starting with rainforest then thinning out to dry pine forest.

You have to walk (work) for your views. The starting point for the hike isn't the easiest to find and contrary to another review there is a car park that can easily fit 20 vehicles. It's a 90 minute hike into the falls - an 11 km round trip. It gets quite steep near the falls. Unlike the views of many falls, this one is viewed from the top with sweeping views down the valley. There are freshwater pools at the top that those who aren't faint-hearted can dip in (a bit like plunge pools). It was worth the hike.

Pick up your rubbish you grubs......i grew up there and went for a quick drive......schitt paper left in the bush......when last there,no carpark,no people,and no RUBBISH.....GRUBS

Really enjoyed this trail. The hike was quite gentle for the most part. Track becomes steep close to the waterfall. The view at the end is amazing! Worth the trip. Water was too cold for some of us to swim (May). Be careful of snakes - we came across 4 red belly black snakes.

Great swimming spot and waterfall in Wet Tropics. Take the Old Cairns Track after Lamins Hill off Topaz Road. Follow gravel road to very end of track then climb over gate. Hike to falls takes over an hour through rainforest and open forest. Steep descent at sign to falls. Superb spot but best in dry conditions.

My friend and I came up from Townsville on our way to Cairns. We’ve been to a lot of waterfalls in the Paluma range including wallaman, but we picked windin because it’s a good walk involved and it’s still great even in the dry season, unlike most other waterfalls in the area. Wow, absolutely amazing! Our favorite by far, could not recommend this place enough!
Without internet - wow I don’t think we’d have been able to find this place! We saw no signs to indicate we were on the right roads or even path.
If you put Old Cairns Track in your GPS, trust that. Once you’re on it, follow it all the way to the end! Make sure you have a car that can handle dirt roads and hills because there’s no turning around. Follow it all the way, even after you’re second guessing you’re going the right way. You’ll come to the end with some cars and two gates. At this point, there were still no signs indicating the path, but hop the gate on your right and start walking!
After about an hour of easy walking, you should find a sign nailed to a tree at the top of a hill. Either path you take will take you to the falls, but if you go straight rather than down, make sure to follow the map! On that path at the very end, there is an arrow carved into a tree that will show the path down to falls.
Stunning views and warm water!! Make sure to allocate plenty of time because you’ll want to stick around!
The walk back up was a bit harder, but after about 900 m steep incline you’re back on the normal trail and it’s an easy walk back.
Could not recommend more highly!

This one is a hidden gem the will blow your mind. It’s a gorgeous waterfall opening out into an expansive valley of rainforest that goes on for hectares. You can swim in the freshwater creek upstream and enjoy everything nature has to offer. You do have to work for your views though as there is a 4.5km one way walk down to the falls with some steep sections.
Getting there: It is an adventure in itself to get to the start of the walk down an unsealed track and a decent drive down to the start of the track via dirt road. It is a beautiful walk though through rainforest and diverse plant life so do not let this deter you. Drive toward Malanda on the Atherton Tablelands and turn off Lake Barrine Rd onto Topaz Rd. After a while you will come to the Old Cairns Track which leads to the start of the hike to Windin Falls. There are signs as you get close and you will see cars parked on the road.
Note: Windin Falls is steadily becoming more popular with tourists due to the immense beauty. They mostly like to pose and take selfies in the infinity pool just before the drop which has become popular on Instagram so come earlier or later in the day if you want to enjoy the serenity without too many people. Also, there will be mud galore if there has been rain so think about scheduling your walk for the dry season when it will be drier and cooler. Take care close to the falls as it is a long drop down into the gorge and is potentially dangerous if you get too close to the edge.
