My best friend and I explored a couple historical sites in the area, and we began here. The museum was interesting; the video about the area and what happened here was very informational. The grounds are well kept. Markers provide visitors with a glimpse of what used to be here years ago. Well worth a visit.

This was a quaint spot with lots of lessons. Free parking on site with trails and signage across the park. The museum was educational with both films and artifacts. There is also a small gift shop.

If you are in the area, do not miss Fort Laurens. It is a pleasant place, even for a picnic. But it is the museum and history that are the most interesting. A tomb is here for an unknown soldier, whose remains were the first discovered. He was interred with honors in a beautiful tomb near the little museum. Within the museum is a crypt where other remains subsequently recovered have been placed.
The museum provides the history of the fort. Sadly, when we were there, the audio was not working for the video they showed, so we skipped it. There also is a short walking trail outdoors with signs indicating the significance of the structure or location.
I believe there is a small fee to visit the museum, but it was waived for us as I am retired military. Vets with an ID, such as from the VA, can enter free of charge.

Very nice area and the Museum is great. Lots of history. Beautiful views and walking trails. A must see!

We always seem just to miss the
open times of the museum; however, the signage on the grounds presents the significance and role of a Revolutionary War fort that was only in service for less than a year. Unfortunately, many of the signs are faded and not as easy to read as they probably were years ago.

This a small museum but well done in explaining the fort and circumstances of building it. Be sure to ask to see the video which clearly explains the history of the area as well as the fort. There are no standing remnants, but you can walk the outline of the fort. There is also a tomb of an unknown Revolutionary War soldier near the museum. The grounds are beautiful , so take your time outside and even walk part of the Ohio and ErieCanal trail.

This site is 3 miles from Zoar Village so can be done in 1/2 day. Very good film which explains the significance of the fort. Do not miss it. Small museum, but well done. The original fort is gone. Only the outline of 2/3 of the fort remains. The eastern part was destroyed by a canal project. Also on site is an unknown soldier tomb and the burial site of soldiers who died there.

Free to visit.
We found it to be very informative. A nice memorial to those that died during the revolutionary War. The only Fort built in Ohio during that period. it was built to protect the Delaware Indians.

enjoyed visiting the fort. the video was informative, the exhibits in the museum were interesting. nice memorial, for those killed during wood gathering, inside the museum and a Tomb of the Unknown outside. lots of opportunity for hiking and biking on the grounds.

Fort Laurens was built in 1778 to serve as a launching pad to attack the British in Detroit and protect the neutral Delaware Indians. In total, 21 soldiers lost their lives here before it was abandoned in 1779. Fort Laurens’ Tomb of the Unknown Patriot is the final resting place of one of the fort’s soldiers who are unable to be identified. Highly recommend.
