OFF the Beaten Track… how to explore Puri without visiting the Jagannath Temple
Was very pleasantly surprised to know & see so much culture & activities that, although are linked to the Temple, yet have their own stories to share

Narendra & Ganga Water bodies that housed the support villages, various Matts & Ashrams that provided personal for servicing & maintaining the Temple
Also using abandoned monasteries as current day warehouses for supply of wood & earthenware for the temple’s daily needs

All this wouldn’t have been possible without Pulak of Grassroute fame and his team of dedicated rickshaw pullers— a 3hr tour made comfortable

Great rural bicycle tour

Thanks to Pulak for the perfectly arranged bike tour around Puri and sharing your knowledge of the area with us!!

Pulak is a very relaxed though passionate guide who speaks perfectly English. If you are looking for a non-touristy discovery of Odisha's hidden gems, this is your go to your organisation!

Special tour of Chattisgarh and Odisha

We are just back from our second visit to the area organised by Grass Routes and it was just as good as the first. We ventured into Chattisgarrth this time, having started in Odisha. We visited lots of tribal villages and saw and photographed everyday life there as well as being treated to several traditional dance displays.

We were thoroughly looked after by our driver and guide so all we had to do was enjoy the visit. We stayed in two heritage homestays which were small heritage palaces where the visit is very personal with the royal family. In both cases they will tell you all about their area and take you out and about.

Claire and Pulak of Grass Routes do very well in determining what it is you want from your visit and make absolutely sure you get it - you aren't fobbed off with a fixed itinerary which doesn't suit. They also provided a very good quality vehicle and a most helpful and safe driver.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Charmed by Odisha

We visited Odisha for a week towards the end of October. The Odisha highlights tour was facilitated by Grass Routes. Our experience right through the visit was very smooth, pleasant and enjoyable. The travel arrangements, hotel stays, guided visits to places of interest- all handled very capably by our guide (Mr Prassan) and our driver (Dhardu).

The highlight of our trip was our visit to the majestic and awe inspiring Konark temple ruins and the secluded and peaceful lakeside stay at Chilika.

We realised there was a lot more to Odisha than we knew of before this trip. Look forward to visiting again to explore the tribal heartland and the forests as well as return to Chilika to spot the annual migration of birds.

Would highly recommend Grass Routes - they offer a personalised travel experience with a rich local flavour. Thanks for a great trip!

An fantastic experience with a great local company

We booked a tour of some of the Odisha tribal regions through Grassroutes, and also some onward travel arrangements. From booking, to travelling, to the actual tour itself, they were fantastic. So knowledgeable, so helpful, so friendly, so professional, the list could go on! They made everything so simple and stress free. The itinerary they put together was fantastic, the guide was great and we got to see some incredible places that we wouldn't have visited without their local knowledge and expertise. I cannot recommend them enough!

Very accommodating tour

In January I went on a 2 week tour of the tribal villages in the hills of Odisha and can not recommend this more. Our guide (Pulak) was very accommodating and took care of everything. He was very respectful of the villagers and had their best interest at heart. I would highly recommend using "Grass Routes Journeys" if you are planning a tour to India, especially of Odisha, since it would be difficult and irresponsible to experience the villages without a guide who knows and cares about the people that live in the region.

excellent organization

I recently completed a two week photography trip with Grass Routes Travel. Pulak was the guide. I generally do not take guided trips but felt it would be necessary in order to properly visit the tribal groups in the hills of Odisha. I was correct. Pulak orchestrated an amazing trip. He catered the daily agenda and timing to my special photographic requirements. Everything worked seamlessly. His enthusiasm and concern for the tribal people added an extra plus to the trip. Pulak's wife Claire worked with me at length to plan the itinerary. The effort was well worth it. I give the Grass Routes organization and Pulak in particular my highest recommendation. Anybody wanting to visit the Adivasie of Odisha should consider doing it with Grass Routes Travel.

Beautiful tour to Odisha, North east India, with Grass routes tour company

Me and my husband are recently back from a splendid trip to Odisha with Grass Routes tour company. We have been to different parts of India in the past few years, and this was for sure one of our best. We were guided throughout by Shrish, an independent guide, but all the rest was arranged by the company. It was a great pleasure to visit villages both large and small as well as the holy city of Puri. A particular highlight was Chandoori Sai so stay there if you can We would have no hesitation in travelling again with Grass Routes and strongly recommend them for village India visits and more.

Excellent trip to Odisha with Grass Routes

Just back from a really splendid trip to Odisha with Grass Routes. We went once before to Odisha but this trip was so much better!

We were guided throughout by Pulak and driven by Dadau.

We could not have wished for a better driver - which is quite exceptional in India - and Dadau anticipated our every need and looked after us so well

It was a great pleasure to visit villages both large and small with Pulak who knows the areas and the villagers so well. He shows great care and respect to all in a very calm and quiet way

An excellent itinerary and a super trip. A particular highlight was Chandoori Sai so stay there if you can

We would have no hesitation in travelling again with Grass Routes and strongly recommend them for village India visits
