Aa short walk from the Ship pub along a path that runs along the cliff edge (don't get to close there are warning barriers), past the Last Grave (rest of the graveyard is in the sea) you can have a wander around the old Monastery and why not its free.

Definitely worth a visit. Walked from car park through leafy cool forest. Friary buildings are large. One old grave still evident. Combined this with a walk along beach. Super morning.

If you're visiting Dunwich it is well worth having a look - as someone has said in a previous review - it is a reminder of times past. Founded in the mid-1200's this site has clearly played an important role in the Dunwich area. If you're cycling this might be an alternative to the beach to stop for a picnic.

A good subject for photography, and peaceful. It is a small site, with some interpretation. The site is well-kept, but it won't take you that long to see it all.

Access to this site involves walking up the country road from Dunwich as there is no on site parking. That said it is only a 3 minute walk but maybe of concern to some. You can reach the site using the cliff top footpath which may be better but is not marked as such. Once you get to the site there are two well maintained display boards giving the background to the site including one which shows you where the main buildings would have been. Only ruins of the refectory remain, although the boundary wall is intact which shows how big it was when operating. Nearby is the last remaining gravestone from the next door church (long since lost to the sea). Returning along the cliff path give great views of the coast in both directions although you need to keep away from the edge.

This is perhaps the most atmospheric of all the Dunwich remains, it is nothing on a bright day, but as the sun goes down and the mist rises it changes character completely

A stunning and peaceful setting. Worth also visiting the museum in town to see how Dunwich has disappeared over the centuries.

We passed the friary remains on the road as we drove down the lane to the beach car park. There is a footpath that leads from the junction in the village to the remains, which allows safe access without having to walk on the road. It is free access and information boards at either end of the field give you some historical information. Good photo opportunities and worth a detour from the beach.
