Very disappointing for the large sum of money spent

This was our first time visiting Hyde Hall, and I’m sad to say, it will be the last.

Hyde Hall is not an inexpensive place to visit. Our entrance tickets for a couple came to £30.60 and we ended up spending only 3 hours wandering around.

We first stopped at the cafe at the entrance to fuel up before what we anticipated would be a much longer walk up until closing time. A tea, coffee, panini and a tortilla wrap and chips later and we were down another £30. I always anticipate that food outlets at these kind of places tend to be slightly overpriced, but the fact that the food was so incredibly bland just added insult to injury. It barely tasted of anything at all.

We began our walk at Clover Hill and the Winter Garden, and immediately noticed just how untended some of the beds were. They appeared to be chock a block full of weeds. My other half, who is not particularly into gardening at all, even mentioned to me that we’d visited many other gardens, stately homes, castle gardens previously, and all had been much better tended.

I most enjoyed the vegetable garden to see the many different varieties of fruit and veg being grown. This is where I spend most of my time browsing.

Unfortunately, it seemed like the vast majority of the rest of the gardens was lacking in flowers, colours and vibrancy, which maybe I assumed incorrectly would be in abundance at this time of year. As such a we left feeling like we’d wasted a fair amount of money on a particularly short visit.

Such a shame. We won’t be visiting again.

Disappointed

Visited last year and it was ok thought we would give it another try. However upon booking tickets were suprised to find if we had been claiming uc or pension credit the entrance fee is just a pound! Had this have been the case we could have taken 4 others with us for £1 each. Plants and the cafe are expensive too. Although it is a good idea to have a reduced price im disappointed it seems at the cost of anyone purchasing a standard ticket, childrens entrance is also very steep. I wont visit again there are nicer places to go that are cheaper.

Tulips!

The garden is a stunning display of colour at the moment with the tulips in full display. There is of course much more to see on this extensive garden. Do not miss the cottage garden just inside the entrance. For those with walking restrictions there is a buggy service which will take you from near the entrance up to the heart of the garden up the hill. Plenty of free car parking.

First time family visit

We visited on Easter Sunday, 5 adults and 2 children. Ordered tickets online the night before. Plenty of parking, including disabled and family spots. On entering we were called over to the desks. My son and his family handed over their email confirming purchase, for some reason the lady on the desk charged them again? When we met outside and they told me about being charged I went back in and a refund gained.

There was a member of staff handing out the paperwork for the Easter Trail. One excited 7 year old.

The gardens were lovely to wander round, liked the different areas. Would love to go back in the summer and have another look. The views around were stunning. You could see for miles. Took loads of photos.

We saw the ducks and geese down by the different water areas. The play area was busy but grandson still enjoyed it. Could do with a few more picnic tables around there.

The sculptures in the gardens were lovely too, some metal and some wooden carved ones.

We took our own little snacks and drinks, because we wasn't sure how busy the cafe/restuarants would be on Easter Sunday.

Areas are well sign posted. We did see a person in their wheelchair struggle in some area due to ground and a bit hilly.

Would go back again but in the summer.

The grandchildren enjoyed the Easter egg hunt.

The food is very expensive in the cafe. The Easter egg hunt was fun but why dont the children just get a normal small egg at the end? Also it might be nice to add swings roundabout to the park.

Wonderful Winter Garden

I was at Hyde Hall on a morning when it was snowing. Weather doesn't affect my view of gardens, since gardens are different every day. I'm so glad I saw Hyde Hall: the person at the counter said be sure to view the Winter Garden, and that's where I started. It's simply brilliant and possibly the best winter garden to be seen anywhere -- variety, color, texture, shapes. It's one of the most exciting, creative gardens to be seen anywhere. The tea shop was well stocked for hot cocoa afterwards. One must exit through the overstocked shop, an impossible wander without dropping a few more bob. Wonderful garden and an area highlight.

Gardens beautiful but was very let down with the cafe experience.

These gardens are magnificent and never dissapoint whatever time of year you go .
HOWEVER .Our visit was February 2023.
We made a couple of visits on the day to the shop level coffee shop .
We were rather disgusted to be honest at the state of the upholstery on the seats we had at our table and trying to find something that looked clean in the end choosing non upholsterd seats. The ones we encountered from our and nearby tables were discusting with stains and bits of food on them .Looking very unclean .Are they ever looked at I wonder they sure could do with a deep clean .

The flower show which isn't a flower show

Re-visit on Friday 05th August 2022 for their annual flower show, which in truth was more trade show as the only flowers on show, were those in front of each trade stand. Nice all the same but a bit of a con. Also felt sorry for the traders on the hill who were pretty much abandoned during thus show.

Rubbish feel conned

Glow 2022. Very very disappointed. Wish we had not waisted time and money. £80?? From last year, nowhere near the amount of lights and area as last year. We feel conned.
Definitely will not be going again and definitely will not be joining the RHS which we were planning to do. Only gave it the one star because I had to. Many people leaving with us expressed the same feelings. We will be spreading the word. Rubbish. Hope organizers feel proud of conning people.
