Marvelous. Friendly and welcoming volunteers, plenty of hands on items, interactive displays, lots of fascinating artefacts and excellent coffee. Has a lovely couple of interesting hours here and saw some very relevant and exciting items!

Not the usual place that I'd visit, but I was in the area and thought that it would be good to mark visiting a well-known garrison town. It's great that they have preserved the historic aspects of the military and I could only wish them well. It's quite World War II centered. It would have been interesting to see more recent equipment from recent conflicts. My generation served in Iraq (sadly someone from school died) and it is now recent history.

I took my grandchildren and we were not sure what to expect. However, we all had a great time and learned a lot. The staff we extremely good with the children and took time to explain about the weapons and uniforms. They even got to dress up. As it was Halloween they also did pumpkin carving. Outside the obstacle course was a hit also. Very enjoyable visit.

Was positioning myself in the area for work on the following Monday and wanted to do something on arrival on Sunday.
Is quite a small site but was easy to park and was welcomed on arrival and given a fascinating hands on history lesson on the progression of the British Army Rifle. A knowledgeable guide (had served in the 1960s) handed me each rifle in turn with examples of the bullets and a description of the advantages and limitations of each.
Moving on to the rest of the museum and exhibits was a pleasant surprise. The rest of the first barracks was a social history of the area and how the barracks and civilians had coexisted. Included history of the buildings, transport infrastructure, trading, Royal visits and aviation. The next barracks house focused on ‘a soldiers life’ through the years showing how facilities had changed. Particularly enjoyed the ‘cut away’ Alvis Scorpion -where you could experience reconnaissance through a periscope.
Lastly there were the exterior exhibits, Main Battle Tanks, Reconnaissance Vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers and the vital logistical support of lorries/amphibians plus medical support. Gave you a proper idea of the scale of these incredible beasts….

Lovely little museum, with a good outdoor ‘assault course’ play area for the kids. Inside, the exhibits have interactivity for the little ones including a sort of cut-out tank you can sit in, and a tunnel to crawl through. Lots of interesting information to read and we really enjoyed seeing the models and old photographs.
One entry gets you in for a whole year as well which is very reasonable. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

£9 per adult (£4.50 per child) to pay once and visit AS MANY TIMES OVER A YEAR makes the museum a superb choice. The museum has a chronological order of the military in Aldershot with superb information displays, artefacts, images and interactive ideas for kids (and adults...why not).
To add, the museum also provides a super insight into the history of Aldershot and Farnborough over time as well as insightful corner dedicated to Samuel Cody. Military tanks and vehicles around the museum (outside walk) as well as the always popular assault course for kids/keen adults (with a timer display) makes outside museum as historically scintillating as the inside.
The gift shop has a variety of small snacks, drinks (hot and cold) as well as military/history based items whereby profits all go towards the military museum and military itself.
If I'm being hypercritical - 1) people with asthma/breathing difficulties would be wise to take inhaler with them as the inside of the second building you initially is slightly dusty.
2) I really enjoyed the Gurkha and Canada displays in the next lone standing building (Montgomery?) but would have loved for more artefacts/displays there.
But for what you pay for a year and what you receive then its a superb way to get your cultural capital on Aldershot.

My wife is carrying out research on her late grandfathers time in the army and was particularly interested in knowing more about his medals.
The volunteer staff could not have been more friendly,helpful and knowledgeable . We spent most of our time talking to two gentleman, ( we won’t mention them by name to save thier blushes) . We received lots of helpful advice about medal ribbons and how to present the medals. We then went around the exhibits. I had previously been to the museum about ten years ago with a teenage grandnephew and it was looking a bit sorry for itself. So i was pleasantly surprised at the transformation, it was now decked out with far more hands on exhibits, ideal for bored kids of all ages, but there was a lot of interesting information on life in the army and lots of tanks guns and equipment.
Well worth a visit , i know we will be returning with our grandson.

Lovely little museum,kids had fun on obstacle course and I found the exhibits very interesting and the staff very knowledgeable ,talking to the reenactment soldiers was a bonus

I bought my 3 grandsons here over the six week break. We all learnt so much from our visit. The children went round the museum taking in and reading all the information that was priceless.
We paid once and that ticket can be used as many times as you like throughput the year.
David was the gentleman who introduced the boys to different kinds of guns and different eras they were used in along with the children trying on different outfits.
Definitely going to return here it was a fabulous experience.
