we spent an hour and more walking and talking what we remember from our past.
the museum staff were very welcoming, we followed the arrows which showed progression of medical advances in the war arena.
It was interesting that the old surgical tools would not look out of place in your garage/shed.
seeing all the medals and photos of the men who earned them for the services.
there is plenty of space for wheelchairs and people with visual issues and the displays are well lit

This museum is situated in a military camp.It provides a comprehensive overview of everything connected with medicine.So there are sections on dentists and vets.Mind you the most intriguing exhibit was a pewter enenama gifted to the Queen.Obviously she had no immediate use for it and loaned it back to the museum.

My partner and I visited this wonderful museum earlier this year for his birthday. It is a real gem because it charts the history of military museum from the ancient Greek and Egyptian civilisations, up to the modern day. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only thing that is vaguely disappointing is the obvious lack of visitors. We visited on a Heritage Open Day, so it was slightly busier than usual. The collection itself is very extensive and interesting. We were particularly enthralled by the displays from the First World War, as well as the wooden Birthing Chair – which looks about as comfortable as a park bench!! It is a hidden gem and a must-see for those who are interested in history, medicine, dentistry, nursing the Army and much more!!

My son is in the Royal Army Medical Corps and has served all over the world in various conflicts and areas of need. I did not realise that this museum was open to the public, if you get the opportunity visit it and see just how military medicine has led it's field since the days of the Greeks. A brilliant timeline taking you from pre history through to today. It also has an amazing section on Victoria Cross recipients in the RAMC and their citations. Not only are the the exploits of the RAMC explained but also the history of the Dental and Veterinary Corps. All this is held in a working barracks, so expect to see members of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment at work. Take photo ID to be allowed to enter the barracks and there is also adequate parking just outside the main gate.

This museum is tucked away in Keogh barracks and we only heard about it by accident, but a happy accident. What a great place to visit. It covers the history of military medicine through the ages as well as displays of uniforms, medals and instruments.
It is a great reminder of how innovative people can be under stress, a reminder of how courageous and selfless people can be and also how cruel in inhuman people can be as well.
The museum was very quiet when we visited so we virtually had the place to ourselves.
A fantastic museum that should not be missed and entry is free!

We visited this museum after having heard about it on a TV programme, from then on I HAD to visit! I was certainly not disappointed. We had the place to ourselves so didn’t feel any pressure to rush, we took our time and enjoyed looking at all the exhibits at our leisure. What a gem! Why did I not know about this place before? I can’t recommend highly enough!!

Een minder bekend museum gelegen op militair domein. Het is een oorlogsmuseum maar dan bekeken vanuit de medische kant. Het geeft een overzicht van de evolutie van de medische diensten vanuit de middeleeuwen tot nu. Een hele mooie opstelling en heel goed gedocumenteerd.

If you expect one of today's 'entertainment experiences', then you'll be disappointed. Whereas, if you take the time to imagine what it would be like to experience the medical care of times gone by, then follow the story of evermore effective military medicine, right up to the present day, it is a worthwhile investment of your time.
It's important to appreciate that many of the most significant developments of civilian medicine have their origins in military medicine. Also, to know that things like antibiotics may not have been understood before WW2, yet the sphagnum moss WW1 field dressings were a natural antibiotic. Our ancestors' techniques may have lacked modern science, but we're based on centuries of practical experience.
Not suitable for kids.
Also keep an eye open for the many aircraft on display around the camp.
Do be aware that this is an active military establishment and that you are not free to roam. You may be challenged by military security and must report to the guard room at the camp entrance. Don't let that put you off, they're very friendly and welcome visitors.

Having driven past this museum on a regular bases I finally decided to make a visit. I went on a Tuesday, it's open week days but only open 1st Saturday of the month. I recommend looking up it's opening times before going. Take photo I/D/address with you and they give you a visitors pass. It's free to go in and I found it fascinating. If you are interested in anything to do with medicine, human or animal or military it's worth reading all the displays. It's a real eye opener into how medical improvements have developed sadly through necessity due to wars. I spent over 2.5 hours in there. They have a selection of medals and stories including the Victoria Cross and PDSA for animals. There is an amazing and thought provoking display of school art work too. I would suggest this is a museum for older children and adults as some of the displays include distressing medical scenes. I would also like to thank the very informative and interesting lady on the reception desk who had been an army medic. I can honestly say it's one of the best museums I have been too.
