Great place for a hike, with an amazing view at the top, highest point for miles and nice and quiet when we visited

Views from up here are fantastic and it's a great place to start a walk along the Ridgeway. The Beacon is signposted off the B489 from Ivinghoe. Large car park (free) about 3/4 mile from the turn-off. The car park is surfaced which is a bonus but there are no facilities except perhaps for an ice-cream van in summer.

walked 96 miles (Ridgeway plus side trips to accomodation) from Overton Hill to Ivinghoe Beacon and massively disspointing to see the information board had been removed/vandalised. all the way along the trail there are signs showing progress with the exception of the end! The view is special though but, just saying.

But definitely worth a visit at sunset. Lovely walks around the beacon too. Good place to run to if you are feeling energetic

Took a 16 year old over to Ivinghoe Beacon today so we could show him the view from the trig point.
Weather not perfect as cloudy so the views not as good as on a clear sunny day - the lion wasn't very clear - but it was still warm enough just for a tee shirt when walking up the steep slopes.
We only did the route from the car park up to the trig point, along the ridge to the path down the field edge to the track and back along the track to the long climb up to the car park today.
The wild flowers are absolutely gorgeous at the minute - worth a visit just to see them.

Plenty of parking so that you can enjoy this chalk escarpment - part of the Chiltern Hills. You would not know Dunstable is not far and you may hear the lions at Wipsnade,

Good. Free parking, lots of walking to be done. The views are fab! We did go at dusk/night so perhaps did not see it as well as we might have in the day.

Another great late afternoon walk up and around the Beacon. Our first visit for over a year though, and it was very pleasing to be able to get up the last long hill all in one go, without stopping, after losing around 4 stones since last time! A real test which I was delighted to pass, and which means we’ll be back again very soon! Lovely views all around of course, even the white lion looked perfect in the evening sunshine.

This is a lovely place to visit and there are lots of great walks in the area of varying lengths. Today we walked from the car park down to Aldbury and had lunch at the Greyhound and then we walked back along the length of the escarpment finishing on the top of Beacon Hill.

Not a huge dog fan if they are running loose without leads barking and sniffing around my pic nic. Anyone know of any quieter/ peaceful routes to walk and sit if I am coming from Tring Station and is it best to go back via Tring or another ?

Dogs must be kept on leads on most of the route. From the top, head towards Lion Point, that is great picnic spot near the zoo. From there it is a short walk to Dunstable rather than going back to Tring.

What else is there to do around here? Is there somewhere nice to eat? Our Grandma (who is 95) has always wanted to visit, but we have 2 children with us too so want to keep everyone happy.

You can drive on towards Dunstable for about 5 mins and visit the National Trust cafe on Dunstable Downs which gives excellent views over the countryside whilst being nice and warm at the same time. The food is good and reasonably priced and there are modern clean toilets up there too. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't like to push a wheelchair upto the beacon....
It may be better to head to the Ashridge estate from the car park closest to the beacon

Why is Ivinghoe Beacon listed as being in Aldbury? They're miles apart. Ivinghoe Beacon is within The Parish of Ivinghoe and 1.1 miles from the small hamlet of Ivinghoe Aston. Aldbury is at least 4 miles away
