A wonderful experience from the initial communications to being greeted by the entire team on leaving our car, welcome canapes and drinks to being flown along the coast to the Cliffs of Dover in our dedicated plane. A graduation surprise for the whole family of 5 plus Minitaure Schnauzer who was allowed share the experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Cecile, Adam, James, James and Jonathan.

I flew from Lydd with TG Aviation, a small company that I strongly recommend for flying lessons or flying experience in light aircraft. The airport itself is small but cosy and handily placed for flying across the channel if you own a plane. It once had glory days as the home of Silver City Airways, who used to fly car transporters to the continent, but is now largely restricted to private flying and business transportation. However it is also a great place to take the kids to watch small planes taking off and landing, has a great eatery and is friendly and well placed for combining with a day on the beach at nearby Camber Sands. Ideal day out destination and one can also usually book a taster flight if you fancy trying your hand a piloting a small plane for an hour.

We must have caught an off day. Arrived at the airport and nobody seemed to know wher we should be. Went to the restaurant, admittedly early, but expected at least a table set out with canapés and glasses. Only one of us travelling and after the other passengers arrived, a glass of champagne and small plate of canapés plonked in front of her and we were told that when they flew, we would have to leave the restaurant as waitress was going home! Worried watching the pre flight checks that passenger door was still open, but then engines were turned off whilst pilot got off to close it (apparently told passengers that the last pilot had left it open!!). Pleasant flight but no commentary on where they were flying over. This was my sister in law's 80th birthday present from the family so something of an anti climax! Won't do it again. Weren't made to feel welcome.

As a birthday treat, my husband and I flew to Le Touquet for the day from Lydd. The flight over was almost full but on the way back there were only three of us so it felt quite exclusive!
We were told that it was a 10 to 15 minute walk into town from the airport, but it took us quite a bit more than that. Having said this, it is a very pleasant walk down tree lined streets with many very attractive villas so plenty to keep your interest.
We had never been to Le Touquet before and enjoyed walking round looking in all of the shop windows - especially the patisseries and chocolatiers - and walking along the sea front. We found somewhere for lunch but, be warned, with the current exchange rate it does tend to be expensive. However all the restaurants seemed to be doing a roaring trade!
All in all a very pleasant experience. I now have a taste for doing the "White Cliffs" flight.

Very much a fun experience, only 15 min flight from Lydd to Le Touquet, flying low enough to view the shipping in the Channel. Very informal checkin recalling the golden days of flying, before it became an endurance.
Le Touquet is a very pleasant town to visit accessible by short taxi ride from the airport. Plenty of restaurants and lovely sandy beach. We were lucky to see a stunning sunset over the ocean. Would recommend the Holiday Inn, just a short walk from the town.

My husband and I went on a Champagne flight over Romney Marsh. This was my first ever airplane flight. We were greeted by Adam who showed us where we were to meet with the other people taking the flight. There were 6 of us in total. There was Champagne and Canapes awaiting us in the Airport Restaurant. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We waited in the Restaurant until James our pilot came and took us through to briefing room to inform us of route we would be flying and safety procedures that we needed to know in case of emergencies.
We were then escorted to the aircraft on which we were due to fly. James the pilot ensured that we were all safely secured with our belts.
The views were wonderful and the whole flight was superb. It went all too fast time wise but the whole experience from start to finish was excellent from booking the flight through Cecille in the office to refreshments and all aspects of the flight. We were able to take photographs of plane and ourselves.
We also made a nice couple that we are going to keep in touch with. We are looking forward to our next flight either White Cliffs experience or Le Touquet.
Thanks LyddAir throughly enjoyable experience especially as it was my first ever airplane flight.
Compliments to all involved

My husband is approaching his 70th birthday and always fancied a private jet. Well, I couldn't run to that, but Lydd Air made his dream possible and what a first class job they did of it, from start to finish. Jonathan Gordon was just wonderful! He organised everything for me, from recommending and booking the Le Touquet restaurant, providing mini-cab people, champagne, etc., etc. Robin, Jonathan's brother, was also great, looking after all the pre-flight administration and even kindly ensuring 70th birthday balloons were in place. We were met at Lydd Airport by very friendly, attentive staff. We had a safety briefing but were really impressed that the formalities were so informal!! Jonathan was our pilot for the day, accompanied by Barry. What lovely gentlemen these are. We had the Beechjet, which was just beautiful! We all had a fantastic day and we managed to keep the trip secret from my husband until the last moment - he was thrilled and it is, of course, one of the highlights of his life. I am only concerned that he has got the taste for it now and is making worrying noises about trying out some of the other private planes... So, Jonathan, Robin and Barry - I don't think you have seen the last of us yet. Thank you for a truly unforgettably wonderful day!!

It was my wife's 70th birthday and I wanted to do something different from the usual meal out with the family. I researched on-line looking for short flights to a suitable destination with eight of us - two sons and their partners and two young grandchildren. I struggled to find anything suitable until I came across the Lydd Air website. Le Touquet was not somewhere I had been before but it seemed to meet our requirements - a short flight; a superb selection of restaurants and a clean beach with amusements for the grandchildren after lunch.
I e-mailed Lydd Air and quickly received a helpful and courteous response outlining various options including scheduled flights and a charter. Given that there were eight of us and Lydd Air operate a nine seat Piper Chieftain, then the charter seemed the best bet and at almost the same price as eight scheduled airfare tickets there was no contest.
Jonathan at Lydd Air could not have been more helpful. He suggested a good restaurant and even made the booking for us. I needed help with taxis from the airport to the restaurant - a walkable distance but not with two young children - and he was happy to book this for us too.
So all was arranged at the times we had requested - 1000 from Lydd and 1800 return - and we arrived at Lydd in three separate vehicles but ample parking is available. We were met in the airport restaurant by James, our pilot, who did a great job at putting one of our party, a nervous flyer, at ease but also professionally dealt with the safety briefing with just the right mix of humour and seriousness.
Out to the aircraft - clean and comfortable and a great treat for the grandchildren taking turns to be seated next to the pilot. James keep us amused during the short flight but also obviously kept his mind on the job too! Our nervous flyer soon lost her concerns and clearly enjoyed the trip.
Le Touquet is a nice little airport - more modern than Lydd with better facilities and James led us through the immigration process. Then into the pre-booked waiting taxis, immaculate with friendly informative drivers and off to the restaurant. They were expecting us and the meal was superb with the children well looked after. The menus had an English translation so my schoolboy French was hardly needed.
After lunch a pleasant walk through the town - plenty of attractive shops and to the beach. We were lucky to have a really warm afternoon and shared the wonderfully clean beach with French and tourists from other nearby countries. Le Touquet is obviously a favourite with Belgians as well as British.
We struggled to find taxis for the return to the Airport and were actually late arriving back there. We had managed to get a message to him via the Le Touquet staff but would recommend exchanging mobile phone numbers with the pilot in case of problems. James was very patient about our lateness and within minutes we were on our way arriving back at Lydd right on scheduled time.
Overall a wonderful experience. Lydd Air staff, particularly Jonathan, James and Cecile who had been in contact the day before departure to confirm that all arrangements had been made, could not have been more helpful or professional.
Highly recommended and the per-head price is very reasonable considering this is a private charter.
Try it!

Not enough people seem to know about this, but on the other hand more publicity could spoil it for the lucky few who do. Maybe as much as 20 years ago I found out about the return trips that fly from Lydd (only a couple of miles from the Kent coast) across to Le Touquet. Fifteen minutes on the twin-prop aircraft, only seating a dozen or so and flying not many hundreds of feet above the Channel, and you were in the exquisite French art deco resort for a few hours wandering around enjoying the differentness, eating a bucket of moules if that’s your thing, and then back onto the plane late afternoon for an equally quick return flight.
Fast-forward to this summer, and looking for a side-adventure on our multi-stage holiday in England from the US… did they still run the flights and was it just as much fun? Yes and a resounding yes! There was only one other couple with us on the flight out so no risk of over-booking, and after the requisite architecture admiration (Le Touquet’s seafront is a bit arid — stay in the narrow streets behind) and moules-consumption, we started to drag a little in the very hot and humid afternoon and so returned to the Le Touquet airport about an hour ahead of time. Almost immediately the pilot appeared — “Oh good”, he said “I was hoping you’d be back early; I’d like to get off as soon as possible as I’m a bit concerned about that storm brewing” (or words to that effect… and we’d noticed the clouds piling up too). As we guessed from the way he said it, on this leg we were the only passengers, and I got the highlight of our whole vacation — sitting up front next to the pilot, playing Biggles with the chunky headset on, relishing the take-off and our out-running the incipient storm, listening to first the French air traffic control and then the Brit talking us into the landing… you don’t get unexpected holiday treats to match that very often!
